A new Fraser Institute study is calling for mandatory by-elections if an MP decides to cross the floor as a means to restore democratic legitimacy, as well as Canadians’ faith in the electoral system.

@gregbradyx Police, courts and politicians need to be on the same page to provide effective leadership to this issue. Residents of Ajax need to demonstrate their support and resolve in ridding our community of guns. A disjointed approach won’t work.
This is a well-frequented restaurant & bar in Ajax - home for me for 19 years now. Friends go to hang out, people visit there after work, first dates happen there. It's a good place. A warm place. Gunfire in the parking lot? We can't be having this.
We had two campaign events there when I ran for federal office last spring - amazing staff, dedicated ownership.
Ajax has changed. It's a more violent & less safe place to live. And this IS home for me. I'm not bailing - I'm digging in.
We need actual federal representation & a voice on the ground here. Want me to nice? I'm being as nice as I can be. We ain't got it.
We need the Ford government to expedite the process of faster trials, to hire more judges, & provide more funding for jails AND mental health facilities.
AND...we need city council members (we have some, absolutely we do) who will point out the things I'm pointing out & be just a bit louder on our safety, our streets, our most vulnerable, &, yes, our most dangerous amongst us. We, as citizens, don't care if you went to a ribbon-cutting at a hair salon or that you showed up for a photo-op on the International Day of Such & Such - we care that you're using your voice & speaking out on our issues & problems.
There aren't issues in Ajax that are "not your problem" or "out of your jurisdiction" - the goal is to work for everyone & point out inefficiencies & lack of delivery at other levels of government. I've got experience doing it every morning. I prove every day that it ain't that hard to call balls & strikes. I also am not perfect & happy to admit when I was wrong or my opinion has evolved. I'm far from flawless but I'm genuine. I'm ticked off. Yes, enough was enough in Ajax ages ago.
@calxandr “Complacent” is an excellent term for Canada’s attitude in the last decade. So many opportunities to advance our prosperity and security have passed without Canada taking action. For a country that could be world leaders, we seem content with mediocrity.
For 12 years, wartime supply disruptions have loomed — since Russia first invaded Ukraine & Syria’s civil war exploded.
Yet we still haven’t even started one new oil pipeline to Canada’s west coast.
Our governments are failing allies, markets & — most of all — Canadians.
The saddest part of the Trudeau economic record is that the truth is only coming out now — the year after he resigned. Far too many in business, finance, media & public service chose to sit on their hands or hold their tongues while this generational damage was being done.
Despite his contract extension, it may be time for John Schneider to be removed as #BlueJays manager.
He says ‘Homer’ #Hoffman is still his choice as closer; this despite 3 blown saves and 2 losses in 9.1 innings.
If Schneider can’t recognize incompetence, he’s got to go.
