The people are not always right. Moral courage is always necessary in leadership. And we cannot ever think that we have permanently vanquished the ideas that Trump and so many others before him have used to lead so many Americans astray. https://t.co/uT2bU7h2YH
Nietzsche said a lot of contradictory stuff but one of his most consistent ideas is that archaic western culture used to value brute strength for its own sake but Judeo-Christianity inverted the relationship between strength and goodness and encouraged the strong to feel guilt and pity for the weak. He revered Homer's Odysseus much more than a contemporary Christian priest.
So it's funny that Nolan made The Odyssey kinda Christian—accentuating the main character's guilt, trauma—and then many Christian conservatives, who decided that they were going to hate the movie because it had a Black actress in the wrong role, instead have to twist themselves into the pretzel of arguing that making the Odyssey Christian is "woke" and they just really wanted to see a movie and hero that properly embodied the very same archaic and anti-Christian values that in any other context they would consider abhorrent.
Remember when they said Trump would get us into a full-blown war with Iran?
Times like these should make us all realize how lucky we were to have Trump, his strength and his resolve.

Trump's $4 billion Presidential windfall is unprecedented in scale & source.
Obama's wealth grew from royalties on books written before office — and Bush's mostly from a sports‑team stake from over a decade prior.
Most of Trump's new billions are from deals made in office.

RIP 🇺🇸
Tonight is the anniversary of the drowning death of Mary Jo Kopechne in Senator Edward M. Kennedy's car in Chappaquiddick. I'm reposting here the results of an examination of the incident that I did some years back with the the historian Dermot Quinn.

Some usual suspects who like to pretend things aren't that bad on campus saw the data—showing that roughly 70% of students think professors should be reported for saying "offensive" things—and immediately countered with, "Oh, they're only saying that about when professors sexually harass them!"
No, they aren't. The students mean forbidden opinions even if they are, in fact, correct.
I featured the NDSU data a while back but thanks to Stu for sharing it more broadly.
“In dozens of cases, court records and videos show that federal agents were the first to get physical... Many defendants successfully argued that the assaults they were accused of were actually acts of self-defense.”
If constitutional conservatism has a mandate, a foundational premise, it is Federalist no. 10 and Federalist no. 51.
Ergo, openly and actively trying to destroy an auxiliary precaution is a declaration that you are no longer a constitutional conservative.
The Trump administration says Colorado’s voter rolls were “compromised.” Sounds scary, until you find out those are publicly available records and by “compromised” they just mean “downloaded.”
For weeks now they've claimed they didn't have body cams because Dems shut down the government. NOW we find out that they did have body cams and they didn't turn them on. Unbelievable, and the excuse shows how the billions being spent are corrupting government...
At some point Dems are going to have to grapple with the reality that in the face of all of Trump and Republicans’ manifest horribleness and incompetence, people aren’t rushing toward the Democrats. If you think the DSA stuff is helping, you’ve never talked to a swing voter.
Just watched the Odyssey. Glorious. Incredible.
There is so much to unpack, and I'll be thinking about it for days.
But there if I had to sum up the narrative arc in one sentence, it would be this -- heedless people, you will pay for what you've destroyed.
