@AEDerocher I am saddened to hear this Andy. I can clearly recall meeting you and Ian for the first time some 40 years ago on Cape Churchill. Ian has been a wonderful colleague and inspiration for me and the entire polar research community.
The work of @ArcticNet will continue in partnership with ITK & @POLARCanada
"We hope this display of mutual respect and collaboration will serve as an example of how research can and must be done in Inuit Nunangat" - ITK President Natan Obed

John was the longest serving member of @POLARCanada Board - since 2010. The @Arctic, like many of us, has lost a good friend. Vancouver Aquarium head John Nightingale loved to connect people with science /via @globeandmail https://t.co/qO2mSU0L2T
This heatwave extends all way to the Arctic islands. Snow and ice is melting rapidly and too early here in Cambridge Bay (Iqaluktutiak), affecting safety and logistics for travel, fishing and research this spring.
This is all part of a bigger 'heatwave' ongoing over much of Western Canada. Inevitable that more records will break in the coming days.
This map shows how much warmer (🔴) or cooler (🔵) it is compared to average.

"In general, across the territories...we are seeing much warmer-than-normal summer - and not just in a few sites." 2022 is not an anomaly - the amplification of Arctic warming is accelerating, with implications for #Arctic people and environments, and the rest of the world.
166 temperature records were broken across the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon this summer. This year’s trend is a concerning reminder of the risk climate change poses to our planet. Read more: https://t.co/7zuEcu98Mq
