Why is this dereliction tolerated, especially amid a housing crisis, with 17,447 people registered in state-funded emergency accommodation across Ireland, including 5,583 children, and why isn’t this Georgian townhouse listed on Limerick’s Record of Protected Structures? Even removing the weeds and tidying the paintwork would be a simple start.

Limerick is a city that takes particular pride in having Ireland’s largest collection of Georgian architecture outside Dublin, yet it fails to protect its architectural heritage. One example is six 19th-century Georgian terraces on Clare Street, Limerick City: they are not on the Record of Protected Structures and lie outside the “Clare Street” Architectural Conservation Area (ACA 8), which is hard to believe.

The page includes quick facts, a summary, history and ownership, a dated photographic decline log, planning/enforcement history, vacancy/dereliction signals, reuse potential, recommended next actions, open questions, and sources.

It is a real shame that, in the midst of a housing crisis, our heritage is treated so poorly. The former Baltimore Fishery School was a philanthropic boat-building and navigation school that opened in 1886: the first work-study centre of its kind in West Cork. It later became the Baltimore Industrial School, which closed in the early 1950s and is now remembered chiefly for documented institutional abuse.

@DubCityCouncil what about a bit of love for the kip? Might be a bit of a kip in parts, but its our kip!
BTW the word kip only used here, comes directly from Viking word "kippe" for a cheap boozer. How much more Dublin can you get?
Wouldn’t it be great if Dublin City Council restored one of the last surviving 18th–19th-century quayside merchant stores: a protected structure on the River Liffey on Usher’s Island Street, Dublin, vacant for decades, and turned it into a tourist attraction?

Angelica is in Türkiye! 🇹🇷
Just for an extended layover. My flight is tomorrow and I am not leaving the airport hotel area. But goodness…it’s already been an adventure.
The people here are very kind but also extremely inefficient. It took me like half an hour to get a bag of cherries. I didn’t mean to get so many but the grandma just dumped them into my bag and it was a lot of cherries but only works out to US 3-4 dollars. Cherries are super expensive in Taiwan and those are sooooo good!
I think I psyoped myself into thinking Istanbul is going to be a highly cosmopolitan westernized place because that’s all the Turkish ppl I know but then of course those are all the Turkish ppl that would leave Turkey. Most women are wearing veils which really surprised me. Nobody spoke English in the fruit store or the borek store.
Anyhow, I’m on my way to the fantabulous @dalkeybookfest where I will be a speaker on Taiwan, China and nuclear. Maybe I’ll grab a selfie with Salman Rushdie! And Lionel Shriver which I am a huge fan of is also going to be there.
And of course I cannot wait to hang out again with all the ppl I know from @kilkenomics like @davidmcw the host with the most and @SonyKapoor and too many others! I can already taste the pints!
Many of you might know I am a big Ottoboo so I am certainly not going to go back to Taipei without staying a few more days in Istanbul on the way back. But I’ll be in a downtown hotel in Sultanahmet where I can explore at my leisure!
