@MetronomeNotts @bbcintroducing What an incredible night. Thanks to the artists and to the team at metronome for hosting as only they can. Thanks to all the wonderful music fans who attended to make the night such a success too.
And yet interesting how many podcasts are double, triple or quadruple headers! Most do not speak to the listener at all but rather feel like a voyeuristic excursion. To my mind, the most successful ones are the single header ones where an empathetic presenter asks the questions that he/she knows the listener would want to raise. It’s fascinating to study the various approaches.

Yes. Some people say it’s because Ed Sheeran Adele et cetera haven’t released any records this year. But for me it’s the lack of those quirky quintessentially British songs in the chart this is doing the damage. Our chart definitely lacks any sense of being British at the moment. And that saddens me.
I am not disagreeing with any of this. I just think it’s a real shame that more British artists aren’t being noticed by overseas markets because of the chart. Time was when Britain, behind America was the most dominant force in world music. We can’t say this now with a lack of British music in our own chart. I’m looking into the reasons for it. I’ll be back after Christmas!
