It’s part of @icij.org’s #CyprusConfidential blockbuster exposé, which I’ll get to, because it’s remarkable.
But this particular piece is important to me on a couple of levels, one on policy and another on journalism ... 1/
It took 16 months to get Evan Gershkovich out of a Russian prison. It took many more months to get the Russian prison out of Evan Gershkovich. Now for the first time since the swap that freed him, he is talking about his ordeal -- and that of the Russians. https://t.co/MkuSMdVvY4
The settlement with Paramount to allow their massive merger with Warner Bros. includes the promise of an 'editorial independence board.' That could sound promising, if it weren't for the fact that the Ellisons are the ones handpicking who serves on it.
@BedoyaUSA on this on @LeverNews👇
The contrast between access and accountability couldn't be starker. I'm not surprised @helaineolen found @gmorgenson to help draw the distinction. Great review. 👇
Thank you @helaineolen for flagging "These are the Plunderers" in this review and for noting "private equity firms like Apollo are stuffing life insurance balance sheets with risky loans." https://t.co/8XPxUIPwwg
What an absolute shame. I've read Pete's work for seemingly my entire life. When I lived away from home, his stories made me feel closer. He always brought the wonderful humanity, and cultural diversity, of our great state to life. A shameful way to end a storied career.
Susan Collins & her staff have tried to debunk our reporting.
They've said we took the word of a convicted felon, that the Biden FBI cleared her, & that we're regurgitating 7 year old allegations.
None of that is true.

New media is insider media, and the traditional press that founders/investors still care about is prestige media like the WSJ and NYT - “look mom, I made it”
As a smalltown newspaperman who could never afford to give 4 reporters the time to take on a project like this (we have 4 full-time reporters, total), let's take a moment to appreciate @propublica's invitation for other outlets to "Steal Our Stories." Will do!
One of the great things about the @propublica model: anyone can republish their work, for free. It means a giant scoop with a big local/regional import can easily get in front of the audience that most needs to see it.
A profound disappointment & major blow against any hope for democratic governance over our media system. Individual policymakers & media owners keep failing us, succumbing to perverse incentives. We need a major structural overhaul of our entire media system from root to branch.
OMG this is the best job
The Washington Post is seeking a reporter to cover the rapidly evolving information ecosystem — exploring the forces that shape what people know, what they believe and how ideas spread.

Why a lawyer who launched the Christian legal movement believes it’s gone astray.
If you want to understand where the cause of religious liberty is now, the career of the iconoclastic John Whitehead is an important arc.
