Sure he would. He would throw them often when teams came at him.
Welp:
Michael Jordan absolutely threw elbows at times during games. The NBA in the late 1980s and 1990s was far more physical than today, and Jordan played in an era where players regularly used forearms, body contact, and occasional elbows to create space or respond to defenders.
A few well-known examples:
•Jordan often used a subtle “clear-out” elbow on drives or in the post to separate from defenders. Many stars did this then.
•He was involved in physical playoff battles with teams like the Detroit Pistons (“Bad Boys”), where games became extremely rough.
•There are clips of Jordan catching defenders with elbows accidentally and intentionally while pivoting or protecting the ball.
•One famous moment was during the 1991 playoffs against the New York Knicks, when tensions escalated and Jordan exchanged hard contact with defenders repeatedly.
He was also on the receiving end of a lot of elbows and hard fouls himself. The rules and officiating standards were looser then, especially regarding hand-checking and physical defense.
I love that people are finally giving a history of this app and why it feels like it was always hard to know how to navigate it from the exclusive knowledge. @retromauro did a great job on this article shedding some light on features most didn’t even know existed.
Most people know Twitter Beta existed, but far fewer remember Twitter VIT, an invite-only app most people never even knew existed.
I published a deep dive documenting Twitter VIT, along with screenshots and onboarding footage from the app itself.

Amazing that he’s finally playing “physical” like others have done all year. This is his “target me and I’ll figure it out and show you what it’s like to be me”
He’s the most caring human (personally speaking) and he doesn’t want to injure anyone. He just wants to stop the madness so if it takes some fouls, maybe dirty players will think twice.
Also anyone can understand the momentum of fighting for the ball, would get that this could just be the aggressiveness of pulling that ball mixed with “oh you wanna target me to injure me? Bet.”
One clip doesn’t show the entire narrative.
People love a villain to blame. People can’t stand that level of discipline and mental fortitude that thinks sports takes to be successful. But some just want excuses to hate someone who’s worked hard to get to the NBA only to have his peers are jealous or just upset he’s finally playing the psych game. No different from Caitlin Clark🤷♀️
Happy fucking birthday to one of the most beautiful souls I know. You’re such an incredible friend, and even when life tries to knock you down, you always find a way to keep going.
I love you so much, @dearkimberlykay 💚
45 today.
This birthday has felt like coming out of a year of an ego death mixed with a phoenix process.
I’m so grateful that the things I once feared, happened and I not only survived but turns out, I needed to be exactly where I am. Mid forties here I come! 💋
Thanks to every genuinely beautiful soul who showed up yesterday for this space!
The love everyone showed is exactly why I adore the people I’ve met here and came back to say hi!
You all are amazing humans and special thanks to @retromauro who always has had my back and stood beside me in life and on spaces 🙏❤️
