Here’s how we start fixing the massive wealth gap in the U.S. with 1 simple law:
After you reach a $1B net-worth, you are no longer allowed to borrow against your assets to live.
Simple and elegant.
No more “buy, borrow, die” loophole where oligarchs borrow against their assets to buy shiny new toys but never pay a cent in taxes, all because they never triggered a taxable event their entire life.
Oh you want to buy a new mega yacht?
No problem. Just cash out some of your stock.
Uncle Sam taxes you, you get what you want, and you help the country and people that made it all possible.
@properazza@Grummz Couldn’t they just ban both of your accounts?
I mean, I’m sure it’d be pretty easy for them to look you by your IP address or registered phone number if that’s shared across accounts.
Just doesn’t seem to be that much safer.
Applied for a cushy job, got to the final round, and I thought I nailed the interview and an offer was imminent.
They were supposed to tell me wether it was a yes or no yesterday…
@10KrishGR@PeterSGreenberg@AmericanExpress Can you imagine having a layover for two hours and the people at the lounge entrance go:
“I’m sorry, there’s a two hour waiting list to get in…”
Airport lounges are not really worth it anymore.
It’s super crowded every time, if you can even get in!
I have a United CC that I’ve had for several years as my city has a hub, but I’ve decide not to renew it in Dec.
Paying $95/yr per year isn’t worth it anymore for me. I could get a full year’s worth of Walmart+ for the same money.
My entire career I followed the old mantra of “don’t burn bridges” and giving 2-weeks notice was ALWAYS the right decision…
Now, I’m not so sure anymore.
Maybe it’s time to normalize NOT giving a 2-week notice…
Why should we after all?
When I got laid off, nobody told me ahead of time so that I could start looking elsewhere.
@laszlo000@Grummz Honestly, a Proton subscription might be the best digital insurance against this exact type of scenario in the future.
$12.99/mo. gives you access to their whole suite of apps apparently:
- Mail
- Drive
- VPN
- Calendar
- Password Manager
Not too shabby.
@eMTBrides Letting people record in gyms is one of the reasons I cancelled my membership this year and I know I’m not the only one.
You’ve been warned gym owners.
