📣 Publishing folk, are we listening?

The #ReflectingRealities 2023 report is out, and the numbers are a hard read:
📉 17% of UK kids’ books featured racially minoritised characters (down from 30% in 2022).
📉 7% had racially minoritised main characters (halved from 14%).

This isn’t just disappointing—it’s a wake-up call.

Our founder @JRichardsAuthor challenged the industry at @_thebookseller children’s conference to be braver and create space for bold, joyful stories that centre all kids—not just as a trend but as a true commitment.

At @storymixstudio we’ll continue to work for change. Thank you @storyriver and @clpe1 for all you do!
