Reason #14- NUMC. Nassau University Medical Center is a public hospital with a trauma center and serves all of Nassau County. @NassauExec put a large donor Matthew Bruderman in charge, with no experience. Bruderman hired a female CEO to run the hospital. Allegedly she stole…
HUGE: President Obama has endorsed Jon Ossoff for reelection to the U.S. Senate in Georgia.
“Georgia, the whole country’s counting on YOU to vote for Jon Ossoff.
We have the chance to protect voting rights, stand up for civil rights, and help build an economy that works for everyone.”
ICE agents just tried to take a U.S.-born citizen off a residential street in Long Beach, California. The entire neighborhood came out, used trash bins to block their unmarked cars in, and refused to let them take her away!
Even after agents threatened the crowd and deployed mace with elderly neighbors standing right there, the community stood their ground and she was able to get away safely.
When a neighborhood stands together, they cannot just disappear our neighbors.
There’s some context missing from the East Potomac debate online.
I can see why a public, championship level golf course is exciting directly next to downtown DC right there on a prime piece of real estate. (I don’t have a ton of faith in Tom Fazio taking on this task or in the ability for a municipal maintenance crew to take that on in perpetuity, but I digress.)
The whole grow/shrink thing is tiring, but I don’t think golf should grow in this direction.
There is no lack of championship golf in DC area (Congressional + Potomac + Woodmont + Baltimore + Caves Valley are all championship ready today). There is no lack of places to play for bros on golf trips, and there is no lack of up-and-coming clubs (think Old Barnwell). The game is rife with fashionistas, equipment junkies, and logomaxxers.
In general I’d say one thing that’s lacking generally is simple, good, affordable municipal golf. Not in a granola bar kind of way to do the contrived ‘grow the game’ thing, but rather having recreation for people of the city.
Anyone who went to East Potomac could see how busy the range was. There’d be 20-something dudes getting in some practice after work. There’d be kids. There’d often be dates. There’d be old people. One time I saw Dave Matthews Band drummer right next to me.
I think it would be sad for that to be lost. I hope whatever ends up in its place maintains that function for the people of DC.
It doesn’t appear to eliminate the public park and much beloved cherry trees
It eliminates them
And dedicates an entire, historic, much beloved public park
To a “championship golf course”
Truly. Disgusting.
The supposed plan for East Potomac Park is an absolute tragedy for so many that call our nation’s capital home.
For 130 years, East Potomac has served every kind of American. Golfers, cyclists, runners, birdwatchers, walkers, picnickers, anyone who just wants to see the cherry blossoms. This plan is a betrayal of the public, of the National Park Service, and of the very act that established this land to be “forever held and used as a park for the recreation and pleasure of the people.”
Ask yourself who a public muni golf course is actually meant to serve. East Potomac was built in direct response to the elitism of golf, a course anyone could walk onto and play, at a time when golf in America belonged almost entirely to the wealthy. Now the government wants to turn it back into exactly that. The very thing this course was built to stand against.
This golf escapade is compounded by the fact that golf is about to become the only purpose of this entire peninsula. Over 130 years, East Potomac expanded, not narrowed, who and what it served. The road came. The playground came. The mini golf course came. The cherry blossoms were planted and became part of the city’s identity. All of it added, piece by piece, to widen who this park belonged to. Now it’s all being wiped out in one fell swoop, for a single use, by a single man.
Donald Trump already owns 16 golf courses. He doesn’t need a 17th. Especially not one carved out of 130 years of public land to chase his own personal trophy.
The heart of this issue really is not about golf. It is about who owns our public lands in America. The National Park Service’s mandate is "...to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wildlife therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations." Not for the enjoyment of one man’s ego. For future generations.
Public land doesn’t become private property just because the person in office wants it to be. That’s the whole point of calling it public.
🚨 Yesterday, @the_andrey_x and I were chased by masked settlers armed with clubs while reporting on the olive harvest in Jalud.
We only saw them coming when they were barely a minute away. Stones were already landing right next to us.
We are alive thanks to Palestinians from Jalud and Qusra, who led us to safety.
This was the THIRD attack on international journalists in just TWO DAYS.
FULL REPORT SOON.

One of my formative memories from first moving to DC was the first ~5 miles of the Navy-Air Force Half along this route. This scenery, combined with dozens of people from DC & across the country, really broke through: "Wow, I'm living in the nation's capital."
This one hurts.
So what is wrong with Tom Fazio that he is willing to risk his legacy of designing mostly high-end golf courses to be known as the man who helped Trump destroy a popular Washington DC parks?
Including some beloved cherry trees.
ICE agents brutally attacked and broke the arm of a North Long Beach resident and U.S. citizen. The videos are horrific and should concern not just our community but the country.
I’m proud of the neighbors who documented and stood up for the family being terrorized by ICE. Donald Trump and his inhumane and illegal deportation machine must be stopped. Long Beach stands with our community and our immigrant families. ICE is not welcome in Long Beach. Abolish ICE.
Yep.
East Potomac was a park for the people
All people
NOT just a golf course
Walking, biking, running, picnics, hanging with kids in the shade ( ya know like from TREES)
A place citizens in DC used ALL the time
I loved it there during my 9 yrs in DC
A lovely place
Ruined by a narcissistic lunatic
Like everything else he touches
