Today marks 25 years since the September 11th Islamic terror attacks on the United States.

Nearly 3,000 innocent people were murdered that morning, among them 67 of our fellow Britons.

Today, we remember those who lost their lives, and indeed the extraordinary courage of those on Flight 93 who fought back. Their bravery prevented an even greater atrocity.

Many of us have spent our lives believing in the special historic and ancestral bonds between Britain and America. For us, 9/11 was not just an attack on New York and Washington, but an attack on the free world.

I also want us to remember the firefighters, police, paramedics, and others who ran towards the danger to try and help their fellow man. Many of them gave their lives that day. Others spent weeks and even months working in the rubble, and have since paid a price through illnesses that have changed their lives forever. They sacrificed their entire futures to try and help those around them. We must never ever forget that bravery and spirit.

A quarter of a century has passed, but time must not be allowed to dull our memory of what happened, why it happened, or the ideology that inspired it.

Britain stood with America then. We remember with America today.

One of our new policies announced yesterday was that long term jobseekers will have to do 20 hours a week voluntary work in the community to be able to collect their dole money.

I've already seen some on the left screaming 'slave labour' and other ridiculous things.

This is a brilliant policy announced by @RobertJenrick as it will help those on jobseekers make a worthwhile contribution to society whilst looking for work. It will get them used to getting up in a morning, going to work and meeting new people in a work environment.

When I lost my job over 20 years ago I decided to volunteer at my local Citizens Advice Bureau. It was the best thing I ever did. Volunteering several days a week led to a good qualification and within a year I had a good job with the service which I did for many years. This also led me to working for our local MP and ultimately put me on a political path which has led me to becoming the MP for my area and the Chairman of the largest political party in the UK.

None of this would have happened had I not walked by the Citizens Advice Bureau one day and saw a poster saying 'volunteers wanted'. I was unemployed, a single parent and wanted to keep busy whilst the kids were at school.

Reform UK will always protect the most vulnerable in our society including the ill and disabled. Every Reform MP has someone in their family or network of friends that cannot work and need this support through our welfare system so we get it and will never turn our backs on these people.

But I will say this 👇

Work is good for the soul and through life's journey it can provide many opportunities, stability, happiness and a much better quality of family life.

When I sit on a beach somewhere which my two boys soaking up the sun with a beer in my hand I think to myself 'I deserve this because I've worked for it'.

I'm right !
