At today’s University of Michigan graduation, Professor Derek Peterson thanked anti-Israel protesters for 2 years of campus chaos.
Turning a commencement speech into a political rant like this is grounds for termination.
Sickening.
Little textbooks called ‘primers’ shaped the first 200 years of American Education. Primer will shape the next 200.
This is our labor of love for the kids of America. A vision for the future of Education, featuring MarQuis – a real Primer student:
HARVARD WON THIS ROUND!
Secretary of Education Linda McMahon wrote a letter to Harvard. The university responded by marking up the letter for spelling and punctuation mistakes- and then shared it on social media.
Your thoughts?
Linda McMahon just ROASTED Randi Weingarten over her meltdowns about shutting down the Department of Education:
"Clearly, we are not taking away education. The president has never said that. He taking away bureaucracy out of education so more money flows to the state."
"Better education is closest to the kids with parents, with locals who superintendents with local school boards. We will see our scores go up with our students, and we can educate them with parental input as well."
Bill Maher asks Rahm Emanuel why Chicago's mayor has such a low approval rating, and the panel agrees that Democrat policies have ruined large American cities:
Bill Maher: "I read that the current mayor of Chicago has an approval rating of 6.6%. What's going on in Chicago?"
Rahm Emanuel: "We've gone through 5 years where people became way too permissive as a culture. Which is why everything is locked up at CVS and Walgreens, that's a disaster.
I don't want to hear another word about the locker room, I don't want to hear another word about the bathroom. You better start focusing on the classroom.
In 7th grade if I had known I could have said 'they' and got in the girls bathroom, I would have done it."
Fareed Zakaria: "This is a huge Democrat party problem. Democrat cities are terribly run. Cost of housing is crazy.
The budget of New York state is twice that of Florida. Lots of taxes, lots of regulation, but nothing gets done. Democrats have to own this: The answer to everything is not more taxes, more regulations. People are fed up with it, and feel that it isn't working."
'Democrats have to own this'
Those who propagated Democrat lies on TV also have to own this. Stop with your revisionist history acting like you weren't part of it: People are fed up with it, and feel that it isn't working.
What an absolute legend who led the best life ever. Brilliant, passionate, played tennis til the end. Just an absolute icon. My Dad’s “headmate” at HBS.
I was sad to learn that Dick Kramlich, one of the founding fathers of the venture capital industry passed away yesterday. Dick was the founder of NEA and was a mentor to many of us through the years. He was a true believer in the magic of Silicon Valley and the power of optimism and long term partnerships. He showed up for his companies in good times and bad, and found a way to do so with a smile. Along the way, he helped shape our profession by teaching us the importance of putting founders first.
May we all do our small part to carry forward his wisdom. Rest in peace, Dick!
i’ve been messing around with @duolingo a lot lately—not because i had some grand ambition to become fluent in another language, but because i thought it might impress someone (spoiler: she’s gone now).
in my mind the most interesting thing though is what duolingo does for languages could be scaled way beyond languages with near zero human costs. imagine a llm framework that could take any skill, woodworking, painting, music theory, astrophysics, whatever, hell you could even ingest a youtube video on demand—& break it down into gamified, interactive chunks. instead of relying on human-made content, this system would be powered by ai. an llm generates the lessons, the activities, the quizzes—even the games. the content supply chain becomes infinite, dynamically generated to suit whatever you want to learn. ai isn’t just a teacher in this system—it’s the curriculum developer, the guide, the actual coach. & it doesn’t just present the material; it shapes the experience around how humans actually learn.
this is the ultimate “learn anything” app that’s actually super fun—huge opportunity for duolingo because the distribution advantage. you could build a suite of apps & even charge one subscription for it. the content platform also scales horizontally like no other.
1/ Excited to announce Speak has raised a $78m Series C from @Accel at a $1b valuation!
It' a huge milestone for us and continued validation of our founding idea: AI would fundamentally transform learning. 8 years later, we’re well on our way and believe this more than ever. 🧵
The entirety of the Joe Rogan <> Marc Andreeseen podcast is fascinating, but please, please listen to this part.
The abuse of power within unaccountable (and arguably unconstitutional) federal agencies has become so extreme the stories are almost unbelievable.
Too much fun at the #TGIS last evening!
Hosted two special friends: Rishikesh, and @MujtabaWani, both superstars 🤎
Rishi is now leading the Education (& more) practice for @EY_Parthenon in Singapore. He’s always been a stud. Back in business school, Rishi @digvijaygagneja & Me participated in a business plan competition at IIM-B where we finished second. Didn’t realise back then but it was a start to so many things that were to come! And also, @viditaatrey was super kind to lend us his bedroom on that trip (also my first ever trip to BLR! in life at that point of time). Think thats an year before the giant @Meesho_Official started, so Vidit must’ve making his own business plan that night, ha! Oh and yes, Rishi Digs & I had put up a plan for clean-tech, maybe way too early for it’s time :)
Mujtaba and I met each other 3 years back. His candour immediately struck me. While I don’t have ‘em on the captable ;), over the years ~ I / Leverage have massively benefited from the work Mujtaba & the @gsvventures team at large, @deborahquazzo, @michaelmoe, and others have done for the community .. I’ve found partners, incredible talent, and even investors, all within their community umbrella — keep rocking it you all!
This TGIS, like most TGISs closer to intake (check out previous versions from last 2-3 years at https://t.co/ZImdjQT1sc), was all about reiterating our value system, how we’d need to put together a 24x7 approach to be there for students in these last 45-60 days, the need to have those difficult conversations with students who have two offer letters in hand but are waiting for that dream offer while time runs out, or providing intel re how student accommodation will keep becoming more and more steep so booking 🏡 on @flydothomes ASAP will be a healthy exercise, or just setting all the financial stuff in order w the @flydotfinance team to make sure there is no tension pension towards the end. Wow, even writing this out stressed me a bit :), but fret not, https://t.co/Y3bLsiuu4e team is going to be out there fighting it every minute, #StudentFirst 👊🏽✈️
… & hey, we’ve just started working Sundays too for the next few weeks 🙏🏼
BREAKING: Former President Trump says he will get rid of the Department of Education if elected president.
“We’ll have a tiny group to make sure everyone is teaching English, math, etc. Department of Education goes.”
Parents, teachers - EVERY SINGLE PAGE in your children's books just became interactive.
Education has changed forever.
Using Claude Sonnet 3.5, I created an interactive educational tool to teach my "daughter" how we're using AI to communicate with animals. I turned a screenshot into a mini custom tutor, with her name and favorite color to boot.
And it only took a few minutes.
Delighted to be at the #ASUGSVEmeritusSummit for a keynote conversation with @michaelmoe. This fascinating summit in India has brought together educators, entrepreneurs, Startups, investors & thought-leaders powering global growth through learning, technology & skills.
