The reporting from DRC by @declanwalsh has been outstanding. It features in my conversation with Ebola pioneer Peter Piot, coming Friday. He had read the piece I quoted to him
Great and tragic news at once.
Emmanuel, the 5-year old featured in this report, has since recovered and left the Ebola ward, his father told me.
But the lab technician I met in the next ward deteriorated and died last night. His name was Bienfaits.

Tragically, his doctor told me, Bienfaits fled the ward after we met him last week, seeking help from a traditional healer. When that failed, he returned to the hospital in recent days when his condition had significantly worsened, and he was in the last stages of Ebola.
Comment VICAR STREET to be sent the ticket link! Also let me know if I missed any other good Irish phrases. And also please buy tickets. The venue is MASSIVE!!!

I traveled with @ArletteBashizi to Mongbwalu, the gold mining town at the epicenter of the Ebola outbreak that is sweeping northeastern Congo. This is what we found.

I travelled to Qatar and hung out with and around the trilingual Palestinian pop phenomenon Saint Levant. This Guardian long read is about his story, but also the contemporaneous solidarity and policing of Arab culture since 2023.

NEW: Colombian private military contractors, apparently hired by a United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based company, transited through UAE military bases before being deployed to Sudan to support the abusive Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
This is further evidence indicating that the UAE is assisting or otherwise substantially contributing to the Rapid Support Forces’ capacity to commit war crimes.

The UAE, through it's arming of Sudan's RSF, is probably the most consequential foreign actor in a devastating war.
Now activists are focusing on the UAE's sports sponsorship, calling on @NBA to suspend its brand deal with the country.
