In 1988 Dolly Parton pulled every 7th and 8th grader in Sevier County into a room and told them to pick a buddy.

She made them sign a contract.. if BOTH graduate, she hands you both $500. One fails, nobody gets paid.

The county dropout rate went from 35% to 6%.

She handed out the checks herself.

In 1989 she offered $500 to every kid in the county who wanted to go to the local college.

When Gatlinburg burned in 2016, she sent 900 families $1,000 a month for six months.

You've probably heard that part.

Here's the part you haven't:

The fund raised more than expected, so she showed up in May and handed every one of those families another $5,000 on top.

Then she quietly put $3 million into the recovery group that handles the years after the news trucks leave.

She built her county an entire hospital.

She played a benefit concert in 2007, Dollywood and the Stampede matched it, and LeConte Medical Center opened in 2010 with a birthing unit and a women's center in it.

In 2022 she started covering 100% of tuition, books, and fees for Dollywood employees.

Full-time, part-time, AND seasonal.

In 1991 she paid for a bald eagle sanctuary because the birds couldn't be released back into the wild, no press release.

And when Hurricane Helene came through here in Western North Carolina, she wrote a personal check for $1 million and her companies matched it.

She didn't owe North Carolina anything, but she helped us anyway.

She started the Imagination Library because her daddy couldn't read or write. Before he passed, he told her it was the most important thing she ever did.

Rest in Peace, Dolly 🇺🇸

I was about to go to the bathroom, so I pulled a tampon out of my purse. My male coworker looked at it and said, “Wait… you use tampons?” I said, “Yeah, why?” He immediately made a face and said, “Those are so gross. I don’t get how women can put those inside themselves.” I asked, “What’s so gross about them?” He said, “They go inside you and come out covered in blood.” I said, “So is it the blood that’s gross, or the fact that they go in a vagina?” He paused and admitted it was because they go in a vagina. I looked at him and said, “You know what else goes in a vagina? A penis.” He just stared at me. I shrugged and said, “Exactly. And boys never seem to stop talking about those.”Funny how a vagina only becomes “gross” when it’s associated with women’s health.

This is Bernadette Keziah Matuki
She was 8 years old. A pupil at Little Angels in Kilifi

Keziah went missing yesterday at her home in Mwenzagombe (Bofa) and her family spent most of the day and night looking for her. Her little body was found today dumped near Saint Patrick dumped by the road.

She had been defiled, her hands broken , injured , bleeding and dumped naked. She was in that exact outfit when she disappeared. Her body was taken to Kilifi Hospital for postmortem.

Her family is asking for justice. Help us amplify to the authorities.

This is Femicide

Gladys Shollei is pushing a dangerous amendment, and Kenyans should pay attention.

Yesterday, during a debate on the Public Participation Bill, she proposed removing a key safeguard: the requirement to publish public participation outcomes.

Right now, Section 12(2) requires that once public participation is done, the results be made public, for example, on a website, so citizens can see what Kenyans actually said.

Her proposal? Remove it completely or
Keep that information private.
If you want it, you must apply to the same authority that collected it.

Let me be honest, we already know how this ends.

We have been requesting NHIF, Housing levy, and capitation data for over 6 months. Letters sent to MOH and MOE. No response. Total silence. We are now heading to court soon.

Now imagine this:

A bad bill is rejected by Kenyans during public participation.
The authority then claims: “Kenyans supported it.”

How do you verify?
You write to them, and they ignore you.
That’s the trap.

This amendment would legalize secrecy and make it impossible to hold the government accountable.
Public participation without transparency is just a rubber stamp.

MPs must reject this amendment.

Kenyans deserve a public portal where participation outcomes are visible, verifiable, and permanent.

Enough hiding.

Article 35 on access to information is becoming ceremonial, and soon, we will prove that in court.

I was in line at the grocery store when the guy in front of me asked the cashier, “Do you guys hire?” She looked up. “Yeah, we’re always looking. Apply online.” He nodded. Paid for his ramen and left. Something about the way he asked made me follow him to the parking lot.
“Hey, you looking for work?” He turned. Surprised. “Yeah. Got laid off two months ago. Applications everywhere. Nothing yet.” I could see his car. Backseat full of stuff. Blanket. Pillow. He was living in it...
“What kind of work you do?” “Warehouse. Forklift certified. Anything really. I just need something.”
Pulled out my phone. Called my buddy who manages a distribution center. “You still hiring?” Put the guy on the phone. They talked. My buddy said, “Come in tomorrow. Ten AM. Bring your forklift cert. We’ll try you out.”
The guy hung up. Stared at me. “Did that just happen?” “Yeah. Show up on time. Work hard. It’s yours.” He grabbed my hand. Shook it hard. “I’ve applied to a hundred places...
Nobody calls back. You just… made one call. Why?”
“Because I’ve been unemployed. I know how it feels when nobody gives you a shot. Now you got one. Don’t waste it.”
Got a text two weeks later. Unknown number. “It’s the grocery store guy. Still working. Got my first paycheck. Getting a place next week. Thank you for making that call. You changed everything.”
