Happy Labor Day. I'm uninstalling this today, 15 years since I joined.
No amount of appeasement will ever make this place's owner happy because he will never know true contentment, at least not until he divests of all his wealth and knows his right place in the universe.
Lay worship leaders can and should be trained to lead daily office both so that it can be offered regularly on non-Sundays and so that they are equipped to lead MP on Sundays as needed.
TEC generally sees non-Sunday worship as an unpaid requirement for clergy. So the more hours in prayer we try to mark as billable the more upset people get. Of the 35 working hours clergy take up 5 should be dedicated to non-Sunday worship, 8 to Sunday, 22 to other.
@wokehtklim 🤷 my dioceses are getting a lot better at regularly training and empowering lay worship leaders, largely out of necessity, but I think a big part of making that happen is convincing clergy, esp. broader church/more protestant leaning, to embrace lay led DO and prioritize it.
Not for nothing, but I know several folks whose leadership of DO led to a realization of call to ordained ministry. We need to stop thinking of parishes (and therefore the priests who serve them) as service providers and more as leadership development organizations.
@rather_null @clairewillett Oh yeah absolutely. Between the way he's always a confusing afterthought that folks don't know what to do with,to the way Patriarchy doesn't really include him even though the Kens benefit from it, to the way he fits in better with the weird Barbies and discontinued Kens.
Agatha Christie had a habit of studying things so intensely that she accidentally became an expert. One time she asked an archeologist, “Who is the world’s leading authority on Mesopotamian pottery? I need to ask them a question.”
The archeologist said, “YOU are.”
They won't do that because none of it is about liberating anyone from the patriarchy, least of all women and people assigned female at birth. It's a mean girls club that they're trying to make compulsory.
Having traditional femininity and cisheteropatriarchal gender roles shoved down my throat by everybody and their sister made my PPD way worse, but it also made me reckon with gender stuff in a way I hadn't yet, which led to me coming out trans.
Anyway, we know the T€RFs are wrong about biology because their whole paradigm is based on an oversimplified grade school understanding thereof, but also, if you want gender nonconforming AFABs to "stay on your team" maybe make it suck less to be a gender nonconforming parent.
Cities shouldn’t rely on Taylor Swift for their economic health. Events like The Eras Tour happen once in a blue moon and don’t put a dent in the debt that a stadium brings to a city. Wealth generated from a one-time concert isn’t lasting. When the tour leaves, so does the money.
The Church Fathers were overwhelmingly against the notion of private property because of their theology, i.e. the earth was the Lord's, when wealthy people possessed land they used it to exploit/oppress the poor, therefore private property was stealing from humans and God. +
