Mario Carl Melvin Neal has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder and one count of Felony Firearm.
All suspects are presumed innocent pending further proceedings.

Following an investigation by the Detroit Police Department (DPD), the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Mario Carl Neal, 19, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Kemajai Darden, 23, of Redford.
Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
It is alleged that Neal produced and fired a rifle multiple times at the victim, fatally wounding him, before fleeing the scene. An investigation by our department led to the arrest of Neal on July 17th.

On July 15, 2026, Defendant Kyalangalilwa was charged with Child Abuse - 2nd Degree; Children - Abandonment; Child Abuse - 4th Degree; Drove While License Suspended, Revoked, Denied; and Reckless Driving.

Following an investigation by the Detroit Police Department (DPD), the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has charged a 15-year-old juvenile male, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a five-year-old boy, also of Detroit.
It is further alleged that the victim was struck in the arm by the gunfire.
The juvenile respondent has been charged with one count of Careless Discharge – Causing Injury or Death and one count of Felony Firearm.
