@MikeIsaac Lol the world is hanging on his every word with bated breath. Yeah, Mark Zuckerberg is exactly who societies are hoping comes up with a solution for superb intelligence
@MikeIsaac Gotta admire Meta's dedication to wasting billions of dollars on Looney Tunes financial related shit that tech bros and memevestors love (cf: Libra, NFTs...). Can't believe morale is down at the company!
@brexton The rot started during the 2010s. In the years after the IPO the absolute worst corporate raider and DC politico types came in and the company started doing more and more stupid things. Slow motion car crash more than a decade in the making.
2 months ago, the UK's Sovereign AI Fund announced that it was giving Odyssey taxpayer-funded compute. Today, Odyssey raised $310 million.
Call me old-fashioned, but I don't think we should be diverting UK taxpayers' money to US-headquartered AI companies that can raise hundreds of millions of dollars and that therefore surely don't need a handout.
The completely unsubtle intertwining of Big Tech and US political power is supposed to intimidate the other nations. Smug tech leaders think they are untouchable.
As usual with cartoon villains, they are absolutely setting the stage for their own defeat.
dario seated on the opposite side of the room like a schoolboy being reprimanded while sam and demis sit either side of Trump… yeah this fable ban might last a while
such a shame, genuinely think the U.S. needs to take a better stance. fable is an amazing model and this cannot be the approach we take for future model releases.
@GergelyOrosz I was at Facebook from just before the IPO through some of the critical early years as a public company. What that company has become is a disgrace. They have repeatedly whiffed on product, strategy, culture, societal impact, largely due to talent misteps.
@MikeIsaac "The world is changing in ways that are out of our control" says dude possessing massive wealth/influence who repeatedly fails to even try and shape the world in ways that solve the problems ailing Meta (and our societies). A decade of rot at Meta is building to a climax.
@alexeheath Most of the execs at the center of the AI race hate each other. They are desperate to win the AGI race for ego as much as any potential societal value. It's like one big game, with the stakes as the future of humanity.
Excited to announce the release of TORAX, a tokamak transport simulator from our @GoogleDeepMind Fusion team! #fusionenergy

Looking forward later today to the #Tribeca2024 premiere of The Thinking Game - a new documentary about the story of @GoogleDeepMind, AGI & AlphaFold, by Greg Kohs with music by Dan Deacon; it’s a sequel of sorts to the award-winning AlphaGo documentary https://t.co/1vs4F1pjNF
"Books are letters in bottles, cast into the waves of time, from one person trying to save the world to another. Keep reading. Keep writing. Keep fighting. We're all still here."
🔭 Very happy to share @GoogleDeepMind's exploratory framework to ensure future powerful capabilities from frontier models are detected and mitigated. We're starting with an initial focus on Autonomy, Biosecurity, Cybersecurity, and Machine Learning R&D. 🚀https://t.co/Foi0aBwTzT
alphafold 3, human brain connectomics, med-gemini, amie, …
i try not to think about competitors too much, but i cannot stop thinking about the aesthetic difference between using ai to solve deep, hard grand challenges in medicine & science and building waifus
🙃
Google just announced huge Gemini updates, a Sora competitor, AI agents, and more.
The 12 most impressive announcements at Google I/O:
1. Project Astra: An AI agent that can see AND hear what you do live in real-time.
With its advanced reasoning capabilities, our prototype agent Project Astra was able to identify a number of famous faces in science - from just a few drawings. ✏️
