When I took charge as Karnataka's Health Minister, I received complaints that essential cancer medicines were being sold at inflated prices. I directed the Drugs Control Division of the Department of Health & Family Welfare to investigate. The statewide inquiry found that medicines costing only a few hundred rupees to manufacture were being sold with trade margins of 15% to 52%, and in some cases even higher.

We submitted detailed cost and market price data for more than 253 cancer medicines to the Union Department of Pharmaceuticals and urged decisive intervention. Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri D.K. Shivakumar also directed us to take the matter up with the Union Government. Today, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has capped trade margins on cancer medicines at 30%. I welcome this decision, which will bring much-needed relief to patients and their families.

I congratulate the @DHFWKA Principal Secretary, the Commissioner of Food Safety & Drug Administration and the entire team whose investigation brought this issue to the forefront. I also thank the media for highlighting this critical public health concern.

Cancer patients must not be forced to fight both the disease and the burden of unaffordable medicines. Our Department will continue inspecting hospitals and medical shops to ensure compliance with the new price limits. Any violation will invite strict action under the law, without exception.

Our Fight Is for Democracy, Not Distractions

Yesterday’s protest witnessed a sea of people united in the fight against Vote Chori and in defence of our democracy.

Shri @RahulGandhi , out of concern for my safety, advised me to return to the vehicle and be cautious. That is the bond we share — one rooted in trust, affection and family.

A 10-second video cannot tell the whole story. Let us not lose sight of the real issue: Vote Chori and the fight to safeguard every Indian’s right to vote.

We strongly condemn the de-notification of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site in New Delhi. The right to peaceful protest is fundamental to democracy, and restricting spaces for dissent undermines the democratic values enshrined in our Constitution. The people’s voice must never be silenced.

Our fight is for the people of India, for their rights and for the future of generations to come. The people’s resistance will endure, our unity will remain unshaken, and our fight for democracy will triumph.

The right to peaceful protest is fundamental to our democracy. We cannot demand that right for ourselves in Delhi and deny it to others in Bengaluru.

I have taken note of yesterday’s incident involving protesters and members of the media. I have sought a full report on the circumstances that led to the police action. If there has been any unnecessary use of force or excess, accountability will follow.

Let me be clear: disagreement with the Election Commission, disagreement with my government, or disagreement with me personally does not diminish anyone’s right to peacefully express it.

Karnataka must hold itself to the democratic standards that we expect from the rest of the country. There will be no double standards.

We cannot demand the right to protest in Delhi and deny it in Bengaluru. There will be no double standards.

Met Hon’ble Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri @JoshiPralhad, to discuss the concerns of Karnataka’s sugarcane farmers regarding cane pricing for the 2026–27 sugar season.

We discussed the need to ensure fair and remunerative prices for sugarcane growers and to address the concerns raised by our farmers. I urged the Union Government to consider Karnataka’s views and safeguard the interests of sugarcane farmers.
