In 2009, there was a man known as Purna Duggirala whom resided in India, working as a business analyst.

He knew Microsoft Excel really well, so he started teaching other people how to use it better, at first, his website wasn't even a business, it was mostly personal posts about his life and family.

Then he started publishing Excel tips and tutorials seriously, but he didn't limit himself to people in India.

He went after Excel users everywhere, using Google to reach people who were already looking for answers.

Then he shipped downloadable guides, then an online training school, a simple skill had slowly became a real business.

By the time Chris Guillebeau featured him in The $100 Startup ( a book ) , Purna was reportedly making $136k in net income.

While he was on track to make more than $200,000 the following year.

All from teaching people how to use a tool they already had.
