The #PortlandVase as never seen before. Glorious 19th century polychrome from Hill Pottery, Burslem, with scenes from the 420s BC Meidias Vase. Given to @britishmuseum in memory of the great Ian Jenkins. Now in the beautiful #ColourRevolution exhibition @AshmoleanMuseum
@p_historians@DocCrom@antmoose@romanmosaics Entire chickens are placed on the guests' silver salvers, guests' clothing alternates between full formal dress and semi-nakedness, one of the semi-naked guests is swigging out of the silver serving jug, the perspective is seriously shot and as for the unswept floor...
@archaeologyart@rogueclassicist Walters Art Museum, Baltimore USA. When lazily lifting things from websites, it's courteous to at least credit the right institution.
Lucius Verus as you've never seen him before - temporarily at home in the Feedback Station, lower ground floor @AshmoleanMuseum Come along and share ideas on how this and other wonderful things should be displayed when we redo our #Roman Gallery.
@MiC_Italia@MuseiMolise@museitaliani Very happy memories of beautiful Sepino - stayed a week in one of the old farmhouses on the theatre and studied Roman pots. Watched fireworks going off in nearby hill villages and at dead of night listened to the wolves howling (seriously!)
@roughtradeX@pompei79 Well, if it looks like a pizza walks like a pizza and quacks like a pizza....! Either way a wonderful find for anyone who likes food and the Romans
