Forget about costumes and candy. October 31 is the anniversary of landing my first 360 flip and the anniversary of defending my PhD thesis, so it's a good day to share my TEDx talk. https://t.co/vA9SchsWK3
I was lucky enough to be in the Department of @PhysicsIllinois when Tony Leggett won the Nobel Prize in Physics. Tony had a great sense of humor and didn't hesitate when I told him the idea I had for this video. It's one of my favorite memories from my time at Illinois.
Don't become a mathematician. "I do math" is too close to "I do meth." And if you say "I do maths", many Americans will think your speech is impaired because you're on meth.
The @InstantPot marketing team needs to get this blurb on every box: "Only the Instant Pot brand pressure cooker was able to inactivate G. stearothermophilus endospores"

I got curious about a really unimportant combinatorics problem the other day. After working it out two different ways, I saw that
(39x38x37x13x4) +
(39x38x13x12x6) +
(39x13x12x11x4) +
(13x12x11x10)
= (52x51x50x49)-(39x38x37x36)
You will never use this result in real life.
Reading "Day Three: You need only face the consequences (On paying the price)" in @oliverburkeman's Meditations for Mortals made me think of this scene from Inglorious Basterds.
My one encounter with Ozzy Osbourne was at the Cheesecake Factory on Michigan Ave in Chicago. Ozzy and Sharon walked right by my table. I think I had the meatloaf.
