I was delighted to see the recent Gazette Notification relating to the Chartered Media Professionals Institute Act. This marks an important milestone in the long journey toward the professionalization and institutional development of Sri Lanka’s media sector.

Several years ago, I had the privilege of serving as the Chairman of the committee appointed by then Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma (@DullasOfficial) to draft the proposed legislation for establishing a Chartered Media Professionals Institute in Sri Lanka. It was a challenging but rewarding task, undertaken with the support of an exceptionally capable group of media professionals, academics, legal experts, and industry practitioners who generously contributed their expertise and experience.

Although our committee successfully completed the drafting process, circumstances at the time did not permit us to take the proposed legislation to Parliament as a draft bill. Therefore, it is particularly gratifying to witness the initiative moving forward and receiving official recognition through the present government’s Gazette Notification.

Professionalizing the media sector has long been a necessity in Sri Lanka. The establishment of a Chartered Media Professionals Institute can contribute significantly to enhancing professional standards, ethics, continuous learning, accreditation, and public trust in journalism and media practice. Such an institution has the potential to become a cornerstone in strengthening the quality and credibility of our media landscape.

I take this opportunity to express my appreciation to all members of the original drafting committee whose dedication made this achievement possible. Progress in public policy is often the result of collective efforts that transcend political administrations and individual recognition.

I am pleased to share here a photograph of the committee together with the draft that we prepared at the time. "බක්" මහ යනු මිහිපිට ඇති ආනුභාව සම්පන්න කාල පරිච්ඡේදයකි."මීන" සිට "මේෂ" රාශීය දක්වා සංක්‍රමණය බව පැවසෙන "හිරු" හමුවේ, අප්‍රේල් 13-14 පිළිබඳ මතුව ඇති ඒ සමාජ හා පාරසරික පූජනීය බව කුමක්ද..? අප නොදරුවන්ව සිටි; 71 අප්‍රේල් අරගලය ද තරුණයන්ව සිටි සමයේ මතුව ආ බිහිසුණු බෙදුම්වාදය ද මහජන නියෝජිතයින්ව සිටි 2022 අප්‍රේල් සමයේ ඉලිප්පුණු ගෝල්ෆේස් අරගලය ද "කොහා" ගේ හඬ ඉදිරියේ "පුණ්‍ය කාලයකට" යටත් වූ බව, ආසන්න ඉතිහාස විසින්, අප ඉදිරියේ තහවුරු කරන ලද සාක්ෂීන් වේ. එළඹෙන නිමේෂයේ, ජීවිතය පිළිබඳව විශ්වාසයක් නොමැතිව, භූගත බංකර් තුළ දී පවා කඳුළු සමග කිරිබත් කෑල්ලක රස බැලූ මානවයන් පිරුණු සුන්දර රටක් වෙනුවෙන් දින දර්ශනයට වැඩම කළ අපූරත්වයෙන් පිරුණු මාසයක් වෙනුවෙනි අප වසරක් පුරා පාරමී පුරන්නේ.
විද්‍යාත්මක පදනමක් වූව ද නොවූව ද ගෞරවාන්විතව ශ්‍රී ලාංකේය සංස්කෘතිය ට බද්ධ වූ සිරිත් විරිත් මෙන් ම චාරිත්‍ර වාරිත්‍ර, විශ්වීය සම්භාවනාවට හා ආශිර්වාදයට පාත්‍ර වී තිබෙන බව අවිවාදිත සත්‍යයකි. ඔබ ඒ පූජනීය ශිෂ්ටාචාරයේ හිමිකරුවන් ය. විටින් විට අතුරේ ගිය ද වසර දහස් ගණනක ඈත අතීත ගල් යුගයේ සිට වත්මන් "ඇල්ෆා" පරම්පරාව දක්වා දෝලනය වූ ඒ උත්තම ශිෂ්ටාචාරයේ හිමිකරුවන් වූ ගෞරවනීය මහා සංඝයා වහන්ස, පූජක උතුමනි, දයාබර මිත්‍රවරුනි, ආදරණීය දූ පුතුනි, පතනෙමි ඔබ සැමට සුබම සුබ අලුත් අවුරුද්දක්!!!

Yesterday night marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan with the sighting of the moon, bringing with it the values of discipline, compassion, and devotion.

Yet, it is deeply saddening that in the very region where Islam was born, parts of the Middle East continue to face conflict and suffering. We are reminded that Almighty Allah upholds peace, and that war is only ever a last resort.

In these challenging circumstances, the resilience, faith, and unity shown by the Muslim community around the world in observing Eid al-Fitr reflect their unwavering devotion.

To our Muslim brothers and sisters across the globe, may the blessings of Allah be with you. May the tears of joy rise above sorrow, and may peace and healing prevail, especially in the Middle East. Eid Mubarak. 🌙

මාසයක උපවාස ශීලය අවසන, "නව සඳ" ලෝකයා වෙත රැගෙන එන්නේ අල්පේච්ඡත්වය සහිත පරමාදර්ශී පිළිවෙත්හි වැදගත්කමයි. මෙවර එම උත්තරීතර පණිවිඩය දිගහැරෙන්නේ, ඉස්ලාම් දහමෙහි ප්‍රභවය වූ අරාබි දේශය, යුද ගිනි දැලින් දැවෙන මොහොතක වීම කණගාටුවට කරුණකි.

කෙසේ වුවද, ඉස්ලාමීය ඉගැන්වීම්වලට අනුව අල්ලාහ් දෙවියන් වහන්සේ යුද්ධය අනුමත නොකරන අතර එය හඳුනාගන්නේ ආත්මාරක්ෂාවේ අවසාන විසඳුම ලෙස පමණි.

මෙවැනි පසුබිමක, ඉස්ලාමීය බැතිමතුන් පූජනීය, ඊද් මුබාරක් සැමරුමහි නිරතවීම, ඔවුනගේ ධෛර්යසම්පන්න බව සහතික කිරීමක් නොවේද? ශ්‍රී ලංකාව ඇතුළු ලොව පුරා විසිර සිටින මාගේ ඉස්ලාම් මිතුරු මිතුරියනි, අල්ලාහ් දෙවිඳුන්ගේ ආශිර්වාදය සදකල්හි ම ඔබ සතුවේවා!! රුධිරය ගලායන වැලිකතර තුළින්, නුදුරේම සතුටු කඳුළු මතු වේවා!!!

එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා කාර්යාලයේ ආරාධනාවෙන් නිත්‍ය නියෝජිත, Excellency, @MAFrancheUN සමග පසුගිය දින පැවති සාකච්ඡාව අතිශයින්ම ඵලදායි සහ මිත්‍රශීලි විය. මා සහ සමීප මිත්‍ර, නීතිඥ @LalithPiyum කොටස්කරුවන් වූ මෙම සාකච්ඡාවේදී ජාතික සහ ජාත්‍යන්තර දේශපාලනය, ආර්ථික අභියෝග, ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදය සහ නව පරම්පරාවේ සහභාගිත්ව චින්තනය මෙන්ම විශ්වීය දේශපාලන තුලනය, අප සාකච්ඡාවේ ප්‍රමුඛ මාතෘකා විය.

Ban Ki Moon මහලේකම්වරයාව සිටියදී එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ අනුග්‍රහයෙන්, ශ්‍රී ලාංකේය ඉතිහාසයේ පමාක් නොව ආසියනු ඉතිහාසයේ ද පළමු වරට, 2014 මැයි මස ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දී පැවැත්වූ "ලෝක තරුණ උළෙල" හි විශිෂ්ටත්වය සහ අවසන, "Colombo Declaration" තුලින් ලබාගත් ප්‍රතිඵල පිළිබඳව ඔහුගේ ආවර්ජනය අතිශයින්ම ප්‍රශංසනාත්මක විය. එය අප දේශපාලනය විසින් උපයාගත් නිර්ව්‍යාජ ධනයෙන් කොටසකි.

සෑම වසරකම, ජූලි 15 දින සමරන "International Youth Skills Day", ජාත්‍යන්තර කැලැන්ඩරයට අප යෝජනාවෙන් එකතු වූයේ එමගිනි. එසේම නූතන අධ්‍යාපනයට, තාක්ෂණ විෂය ධාරාව (Technology ) එකතු කළේ එදින බව දන්නෝ විරලය.

මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ ජනාධිපතිතුමා ගේ රජයේ, තරුණ සහ නිපුණතා සංවර්ධන අමාත්‍යවරයා ලෙස මාගේ නිර්ලෝභී කෘතවේදිත්වය, එම ගෞරවයේ සැබෑ හිමිකරුවන් වූ එවකට, ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය තාරුණ්‍යයට නායකත්වය දුන් ලලිත් පියුම් පෙරේරා ප්‍රමුඛ @milindarj, @SankaChandima, @ajithnaragala, @MaduraVithanaMP , ලාල්, සාලිය, චූලා ඇතුළු අධ්‍යක්ෂක මණ්ඩලය සහ කිසිදා මාගේ ගෞරවය නොසිඳෙන, තරුණ සේවා සභාවට මෙන්ම මා භෞතික විද්‍යා ගුරුවරයා වූ ගරු නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය, @mohanlalgrero සහ දුමින්ද දිසානායක මැතිදුන් මෙන්ම සමුළුවේ දුෂ්කර වගකීමක් ඉටු කළ, කුමාරි ග්‍රේරු මැතිනිය වෙත ද සුපුරුදු අප්‍රතිහත වගකීමෙන් සාර්ථකත්වයට මං සෙවූ B.S. විජයරත්න ලේකම් වරයා ප්‍රමුඛ අමාත්‍යංශය වෙත ද පුද කරමි.
