NEW BLOG POST!

Happy 40th birthday to "Fried" by Julian Cope

Here's some thoughts and memories associated with this wonderful album.

@Gruffsdad Ah well ...

[Rob Morgan @durutti74]

@Gruffsdad @AgeingRaver @Mozart_Estate I have no idea why I didn't attend that gig.

[Toppermost @AgeingRaver]

The New Potatoes (on 'Novelty Rock') is a chirpy song sung by multiple Lawrences from the viewpoint of some potatoes. "We lived in a field, now we live in a tin". Four-year-olds love it.

@huwareyou Done!

[Rob Morgan @durutti74]

Don't believe Wiki.

They say "Fried" was released on this day in 1984.

They're wrong. Today was a Friday in 1984 and albums were released on Mondays back then.

First mention of the LP in Melody Maker was on Wednesday 14th, for release the following Monday 19th.

[Rob Morgan @durutti74]

@ShapesLike Cheers! The Honeybourne catalogue is now added alongside your classic album.

[Rob Morgan @durutti74]

Odd niche question I've also asked at The Other Place...

Does anyone know of or had contact with James Tugwell of the sound archives department of the British Library?

[Rob Morgan @durutti74]

@huwareyou Ha ha that would be funny. I'll do it now.

[Rob Morgan @durutti74]

@StuntRider There were occasions where I'd pop into my favourite record shop on late Friday afternoon and they'd let me buy a single or album a few days early. Didn't happen often, felt like special treatment when it did.

@Attack_Sun What, "Fried" by Julian Cope?
