Why does revenue from oil/gas/coal land leasing and extraction on Federal land get split between the Federal government and the states/localities it comes from, but for solar/wind energy on Fed land all the money stays with the Feds and none goes back to local communities?
Well, this could change with (bipartisan) legislation that gets proposed every year.

An overview paper is available here, https://t.co/Tc875NFS84. Contains new public opinion data that is probably the most bipartisan support for change I've ever seen.

Very excited to see the official working paper version of this paper drop. This is a super impressive data effort on an extremely important set of topics. Sets up huge opportunities for future work on the public finance aspects of energy.
I'm really excited to share this new @rff working paper, which is the result of >2 years of data collection and analysis. It quantifies local government revenue from various energy sources across 79 counties in 10 US states (🧵/8)

In recent years, I've had the privilege of working with @MonikaEhrman, Andrew Curley, and more amazing colleagues to support oil- and gas-producing Native Nations as they consider their energy futures. The project is in early stages, but here's an overview https://t.co/2BsD0ERYaC
This is a great^10 paper for anyone interested in energy transitions. @alexgazmararian and I go into the credibility aspects in detail in https://t.co/RKfjzyYqKh (including firm perspectives not just communities) but this paper covers much more, too. It brings a ton together.
Getting a paper out is always a satisfaction!
Our paper, "The energy transition: a balancing act", with @MarReguant, is forthcoming at Resource & Energy Economics

Agreed. This is the central point of this new book with @alexgazmararian https://t.co/RKfjzyYqKh applied to the energy transition and featuring the voices of impacted communities.
@NataliaFabra @MarReguant Impressive! When Economists identify a Hicksian Pareto improvement, we should think about the implementation issue of credibly compensating those who lose from the new policy.

Important read, illustrating just how challenging the distributive politics of the clean energy transition are. I'm currently reading @dustintingley & @alexgazmararian's book, Uncertain Futures, & there's a lot of resonance with challenges like this one:
