Year 8 had some great experiences at our annual cross-curricular skills day in Neath Abbey yesterday. They enjoyed access to the magnificent and very special undercroft for some History. Thanks to our friends at Cadw for making it possible! Diolch! @dwryfelin @cadwwales

In the undercroft, year 8 had the opportunity to see some wonderful treasures up close, including some coins from the Neath Abbey coin hoard, the best preserved tiles, charters, original plaster and stained glass. Special to see these items in situ.@dwryfelin @cadwwales

Year 8 pupils enjoying learning some new skills with Cadw stonemasons. They also tried their hands at working with plaster and pointing stone. Some talented pupils here! #hanesyngwych @dwryfelin @cadwwales

Year 8 pupils meeting a medieval expert on weapons, warfare and medicine! Some gruesome stuff here but they loved it! #hanesyngwych @dwryfelin @cadwwales

Then it was time for some Maths! How to work out the height of the Abbey using a clinometer (a tool used to measure the angle of a slope, elevation, or depression relative to gravity). Very clever! Da iawn pawb! @dwryfelin @cadwwales

Finally, our pupils had the opportunity to speak to the creators of the representations that can be found at the site and get a sneak peek at the plans for forthcoming bronze pieces that will eventually be on display at the site. Fascinating stuff! @dwryfelin @cadwwales
