A former Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) official has been sentenced to 11 years for fraudulently acquiring public property and uttering false documents after using forged academic papers to secure employment at the company.

Mr. David Mogire Nyabuti was found guilty of using a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate and result slip to gain admission to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) Training School, now known as the Institute of Energy Studies and Research, and subsequently secure employment at KenGen.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigated the matter and established that Nyabuti had presented a forged KCSE certificate and result slip as genuine documents issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

He later used the documents to secure employment at KenGen, where he received salaries and benefits amounting to 𝗞𝗲𝘀𝟭𝟰,𝟵𝟰𝟲,𝟭𝟭𝟴.𝟴𝟮 between August 2003 and September 2018.

He was charged before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on 13 June 2025 with five counts, including fraudulent acquisition of public property, two counts of forgery and two counts of uttering false documents.

The Anti-Corruption Court found Nyabuti guilty of fraudulent acquisition of public property and ordered him to pay 𝗞𝗲𝘀𝟭𝟰,𝟵𝟰𝟲,𝟭𝟭𝟴 in compensation to the Government, in default, to serve five years in prison. He was also fined 𝗞𝗲𝘀𝟵𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬, with a default sentence of two years’ imprisonment on the same count.

On each of the two counts of uttering false documents, Nyabuti was fined 𝗞𝗲𝘀𝟮𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬, with a default sentence of two years’ imprisonment for each count.

The court ordered that all the imprisonment terms run concurrently.

The Commission welcomes the conviction and sentence, noting that the outcome serves as a deterrent to individuals who engage in similar criminal conduct.

𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗖 𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗦 𝗞𝗥𝗔 𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗬

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) official for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe to facilitate the irregular clearance of tax arrears and issuance of a Tax Compliance Certificate.

The suspect, Hughes Obilo, an officer attached to the Debt Refunds Department in Kisumu, allegedly demanded Kes. 100,000 from a construction company to clear outstanding tax arrears amounting to Kes. 4.5 million from the iTax system.

Upon conducting preliminary investigations, the Commission mounted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect while receiving a bribe of Kes. 30,000.

The suspect was arrested in Kisumu on 14th September 2026 and booked at Kisumu Central Police Station for processing and statement recording.

EACC remains committed to combating bribery and corruption at public service delivery points and will continue to take firm action against individuals who abuse public office for private gain.

GRAFT SUSPECTS IN COURT THIS WEEK

𝗡𝗔𝗥𝗢𝗞 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗩𝗘𝗬𝗢𝗥 𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗘𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a surveyor based in Narok County over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe.

The suspect, Joan Achieng Odumbe, is alleged to have demanded Kes100,000 from a complainant to facilitate the identification of beacons between two parcels of land at Nairagie Enkare Sub-County, Narok County.

Following preliminary investigations, the Commission mounted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect at the Narok County offices while receiving Kes50,000/-.

She was escorted to the South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing and statement recording.

EACC remains committed to tackling bribery and other forms of corruption at service delivery points and enhancing the quality of public services for all citizens.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kipkelion Sub-County Offices over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe.

The suspects, Corporal Wesley Korir and Corporal Christopher Maina, allegedly demanded Kes500,000 from a complainant in exchange for terminating a murder case against him.

Following preliminary investigations, the Commission mounted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspects earlier today while receiving Kes120,000.

The suspect was processed at South Rift Regional Office and later released on a cash bail of Kes30,000 pending completion of investigations.

EACC reiterates its commitment to combating corruption in all sectors and urges members of the public to continue reporting bribery and other corrupt conduct through the Commission’s official reporting channels.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two court staff in Eldoret and Nakuru in separate incidents of soliciting and receiving bribes in connection with court services.

In Eldoret, EACC arrested a Court Assistant attached to a Magistrate’s Court over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe.

The suspect, Ms. Linet Okungu, was arrested on September 8, 2026, after allegedly receiving Kes20,000. The money was part of a bribe sought to facilitate the issuance of a stay order stopping the auction of a parcel of land in a matter pending before the court.

The arrest followed a complaint by a court user who alleged that a Magistrate had demanded Kes50,000 to secure the stay order.

The suspect was processed at Eldoret Police Station and later released on a cash bail of Ksh20,000 pending completion of investigations.

In a separate incident in Nakuru, EACC arrested a court process server attached to the Nakuru Law Courts Civil Registry for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe to allocate a convenient mention date for a complainant’s case.

The suspect, Mr. Benard Ngeno, was escorted to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing and was later released on a cash bail of Kes5,000 pending completion of investigations.

The arrests underscore the Commission’s commitment to tackling bribery and other forms of corruption at service delivery points and enhancing the quality of public services for all citizens.

𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗖 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗞𝗘𝗕𝗦 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗖 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is conducting a sensitization workshop for the Corruption Prevention Committee (CPC) of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) in Naivasha.

The workshop brings together the Director General and Directors of KEBS and focuses on strengthening corruption prevention, ethics, integrity, accountability and good governance within the institution.

The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Ahmed Sadik, Deputy Regional Manager, EACC South Rift Regional Office, who emphasized the critical role of leadership in promoting ethical conduct, strengthening internal controls and preventing corruption in public institutions. He underscored the importance of proactive corruption prevention and committed EACC to continued collaboration with KEBS in strengthening integrity systems.

On her part, KEBS Director General, Mrs. Esther Ngare, EBS, emphasized the importance of strengthening integrity, accountability and transparency in the operations of the Bureau. She underscored the need for management and staff to uphold ethical standards, identify and address corruption risks, and strengthen internal controls. She further reaffirmed KEBS management’s commitment to working closely with EACC in promoting a strong culture of integrity and preventing corruption within the institution.

The three-day engagement provides an opportunity for EACC and KEBS leadership to identify emerging corruption risks, share experiences and develop practical measures to strengthen integrity and accountability in the discharge of KEBS’s mandate.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) are strengthening collaboration to promote integrity and tackle corruption in the land and real estate sector.

The two institutions today held a consultative meeting to discuss areas of joint action, including corruption prevention, ethics promotion, capacity building, information sharing and public awareness.

They also explored the development of a structured framework to guide their partnership and support coordinated efforts to strengthen accountability and good governance.

EACC and ISK reaffirmed their commitment to working together to address integrity challenges facing the surveying profession and the wider land and real estate sector.

The engagement is part of EACC’s wider efforts to partner with professional bodies and public institutions in preventing corruption and promoting ethical practices across the country.
