This bicycle belonged to the well known Barnsley butcher Albert Hirst who invented the Barnsley Chop which he served to HRH the Prince of Wales when he opened Barnsley Town Hall in 1933

In the museum we have a couple of objects by Barnsley's most prolific inventor; a fire pump and one of his unpickable locks.

Lee donated his Raphael figure to the museum. Our collections range from the prehistoric period right up to the present day.

We are sad to hear that Anne Scargill has passed away.

A co-founder of the Women Against Pit Closures movement. An inspirational working class hero who did so much for the mining communities. In 2014 she appeared in our Coal Not Dole film, can watch in full on YouTube

🐄Today is #NationalFarmAnimalsDay 🐑

These lead toy animals belonged to Elizabeth and were made by her Grandfather in Grimethorpe in the 1950s.

They are now on display in our Stories of Childhood exhibition

Wow! Researchers at @BarnsArchives have made the amazing discovery that the worlds first Yorkshire pudding was made in Worsbrough in the 14th century.
