🌭 At LegalTechTalk in London, a striking example of AI-enabled fraud framed a larger governance question for legal organizations: who owns cyber risk?
💡 In a session titled “Building Cross-Functional Cyber Governance to Avoid a $25 Million Mistake,” moderator Anju Malik, who supports marketing, public relations, and digital agencies at Omnicom, led a discussion with HaystackID’s John Wilson and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas’ Komal Gupta on how a finance officer approved 15 wire transfers after a video call in which every participant was a deepfake.
🔎 The lesson was clear. Cyber risk can no longer sit only with IT. For law firms and legal departments, effective response now requires shared ownership across legal, compliance, security, leadership, and communications.
👍️ Key takeaways from the discussion included:
• why deepfake-enabled fraud is changing traditional assumptions about trust and verification
• why tabletop exercises matter more than written policies alone
• what organizations should prioritize in the first 24 to 48 hours of an incident
• how a verbal-only challenge phrase, including something as unusual as “blueberry hot dogs,” can help verify identity when it matters most
📰 The article highlights a practical question for every organization: if a caller using a familiar face and voice asked for an urgent transfer today, would the response process hold?

🔎 Market Intelligence: the 3.13x productivity mandate underneath eDiscovery's 2025 to 2030 arc
💡 There is a single number underneath every other number in the Market Intelligence series, and it is not in dollars. It is in zettabytes. In 2025, the world created, captured, copied, and consumed roughly 181 zettabytes of data. In 2030, the projected total reaches roughly 812 zettabytes – a 4.5-times expansion across five years, or approximately 35 percent compounded annually. Across the same period, the worldwide eDiscovery market grows from roughly 19.6 billion dollars to roughly 28.1 billion – a 1.43-times expansion, or approximately 7.44 percent compounded annually.
💼 The gap between those two trajectories – some 27.6 percentage points per year of compounding difference – is the most consequential structural force in the eDiscovery industry, and it is the demand-side context underneath every segmentation lens explored across the prior ten articles in this series. The articles ahead describe how the gap gets closed. This article describes why the gap exists in the first place.
