It’s an interesting dynamic here. On one hand, the timing of the portal opening is poor and unintelligent. BUT, it really only impacts 16 programs. And outside of one weekend, it only impacts 8 of them.

Every pro sport has a draft. The winning teams draft last. This feels like the equivalent. You’re winning now, so you don’t get to be a step ahead in acquiring talent for next season.

It’s flawed, but there’s a certain give and take with it, I think.

Still, would rather things start July 1 rather than June 1.
