the original three-tier architecture i’m building uses amazon aurora mysql, where the database is replicated across multiple availability zones for high availability and automatic failover.

because i’m using the aws free tier, i’m replacing aurora with a single-az amazon rds mysql instance. that means every part of the architecture still spans multiple availability zones except the database, which lives in a single availability zone.

if that availability zone goes down, the database goes down too🥲

still cooking 🧑🏾‍🍳 either ways
