Every attempt to mark this down as some grand conspiracy to dismiss the substance is about to run into an electoral buzzsaw. It’s one of the most politically dubious strategies imaginable to be so ridiculously underwater on this issue in the US and waste time on dismissing the concerns by basically telling 80% of the American people that they are morons being fooled by some elaborate foreign conspiracy. I mean - really we think that Mexico has a grand plan to deceive the American people about AI? Stop and actually think people.

I mean when you all put $300M into astroturfing on AI and the moratorium and preemption fight- that wasn’t even remotely organic. It was completely serving a tiny group of people and VC investments. It was probably a long shot attempt to stop the AGs and the Meta settlement if we want to be real about it… so I’ve seen the astroturfing and guess what - it didn’t work. This did because it’s where the American people are. The longer you deny it, the worse the reckoning politically and we lose the window to come up with a thoughtful and balanced strategy.

We need a real conversation that respects the risk of the most powerful technology in human history being developed in private and mostly unregulated hands while not stiffing the good and amazing applications that can come from it. And you all are busy being butt hurt that some unknown guy got on too many TV shows? WOW- how much more unserious can you be?

Time to grow up and take it seriously. We need safe and trustworthy American AI that leads the world. Let’s get to what that means and the adult tradeoffs it requires.

This is the biggest red herring in the AI debate - that some basic regulatory framework that protects kids and families and paces the integration of AI into our economy will be a victory for China. That’s what the industry - hell bent on there being zero check on their power - wants you to believe.

But it’s not true.

China regulates their AI. Why? Because they know their society would collapse if AI wiped out millions of jobs overnight, and they are rooting for us to keep AI unchecked so it leads to economic and political collapse here first.
