RISA BACKS LIFTING OF SALN ACCESS LIMITS, CALLS IT A WIN FOR TRANSPARENCY
Senate Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros expressed full support for the lifting of what she described as "unjust, unconstitutional, and anti-people" restrictions on public access to the Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) of government officials.
Hontiveros said she welcomes the move and is ready to release her own SALN in accordance with Senate rules.
She emphasized that the 1987 Constitution and existing laws mandate the filing and disclosure of SALNs to uphold integrity and accountability in government.
"May karapatan ang taumbayan na bantayan ang gawain ng mga lider ng pamahalaan, lalo na ukol sa korapsyon at tagong yaman," Hontiveros said, adding that the decision strengthens transparency and public trust amid growing public outrage over corruption reports.
She also urged that the new policy be applied equally to all officials—"from the highest to the lowest, past or present"—with reasonable safeguards for personal information.
Senate Committee on Finance Chairperson Sherwin Gatchalian said about P10.3 billion had been lost due to overpricing of farm-to-market roads (FMRs) in 2023 and 2024.
