Just back from @Eurelectric Power Summit 2026. Gave scene-setting talk after President Stubb opened with a sharp conversation.
Also bumped into Alastair Campbell and ended up at dinner with him, an unexpected bonus!
The consensus: Europe needs to get its act together.
𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹
Electrification is Europe's competitive advantage - but only if we get implementation right.
Yesterday at the #PowerSummit26, we launched Power Couples: https://t.co/I6Vv6cAHgo
The good news? Power Couples scanned through successful industrial electrification processes and identified the recipe for success. This recipe is based on a model of integrated industrial partnerships that jointly optimise demand, low-carbon supply, infrastructure and flexibility.
In the Power Couples model, one load anchors long-term clean power, another shifts demand when prices spike, a third provides fast balancing, and all of them share infrastructure, risk and system value. They operate through commercial structures such as long-term PPAs, Heat as a Service, Energy as a service, waste-heat offtake, flexibility revenues or blended public-private financing.
The report is the result of an intense dialogue with industrial players - a cornerstone of Eurelectric Vice-President Catherine Fiamma MacGregor's leadership in deepening Eurelectric's engagement with electricity customers - one lesson is crystalline: electrification succeeds when collaboration happens and system conditions align.

Power and digital sectors unite to strategically enable data centre growth in Europe.
The era of electric intelligence starts here: https://t.co/ohDq7vWork
A defining moment of #PowerSummit26 was the signing of the Twin Transition Commitments by leaders from across the energy, technology and infrastructure sectors.
Representing utilities, technology companies, grid operators, infrastructure providers and industrial innovators, the signatories share a common objective: ensuring Europe's power system is ready for the rapid growth of AI and data centres.
Artificial intelligence represents a unique opportunity to strengthen Europe's competitiveness. But seizing that opportunity requires coordinated action across the energy and digital sectors, ensuring that AI infrastructure can grow alongside the power system that supports it.
To turn that commitment into action, Eurelectric and EY-Parthenon have launched 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗿𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, a new initiative examining both sides of the AI–electricity equation: how AI is driving demand for power, and how power companies are deploying AI to operate more efficient, resilient and flexible energy systems.
We look forward to continuing to explore this topic with the @EU_Commission.

💡 Europe’s energy sector is changing rapidly - and the debate about its future has never been more important.
🎙️ At @Eurelectric Power Summit 2026 – Europe’s annual gathering of energy sector leaders – the PKEE team is taking part in discussions on how to address three key challenges facing the EU energy sector:
⚡ security of supply,
⚡ competitiveness,
⚡ effective decarbonisation.
⏳ The theme of this year’s Power Summit – “Bringing Power to Life” – reflects the scale of the transition taking place across Europe’s electricity sector. The electrification of industry and transport, the continued growth of renewable energy and the modernisation of electricity networks – particularly distribution grids – growing infrastructure needs, as well as the digitalisation and resilience of energy systems are becoming shared challenges across Europe.
🤝 Power Summit brings together representatives of the energy sector, EU institutions, regulators, policymakers and experts to discuss not only about ambitious strategies, but also how to turn them into practical, cost-effective solutions.
For PKEE, the event is an important opportunity to:
🔌 present the positions and priorities of the Polish electricity sector,
🔌 exchange knowledge and experience, and strengthen cooperation with partners from across Europe,
🔌 discuss the future of Europe’s energy transition and the financing required to make it happen.
📝 Ambitious targets alone will not deliver the EU’s energy transition. Stable regulation, modern infrastructure and dialogue across the sector are just as important. For PKEE, being part of this discussion is an opportunity to bring the experience and perspective of the Polish electricity sector to the debate on Europe’s energy future.

Day 1 of #PowerSummit26 highlighted a central reality: electrification is at the 💙 of Europe’s competitiveness and energy security.
The day opened with a conversation between Finnish President @alexstubb and Eurelectric President Markus Rauramo.
@janrosenow, challenged participants to think about the electrification imperative and what it will take to turn ambition into delivery.
Henry Farrell, from @JohnsHopkins, explored how economics, technology and geopolitics are becoming increasingly intertwined in a weaponised world economy.
Throughout the day, discussions focused on how Europe can mobilise investment, modernise infrastructure and turn electrification into a driver of industrial competitiveness.
Together with @Accenture, we launched #PowerCouples, a report showing how closer cooperation between industry and the power sector can strengthen competitiveness and accelerate electrification across Europe. https://t.co/S0gR5u4n51
Tomorrow, the summit continues with @RoryStewartUK and @campbellclaret, @Teresaribera, @DanJoergensen, and many others.
Stay tuned!

Europe's competitiveness starts with electrification.
That's one of the key messages emerging from the opening sessions of #PowerSummit26 in Helsinki today.
As President @alexstubb of Finland and Markus, Eurelectric President and CEO of @Fortum, discussed Europe's future in an increasingly uncertain world, one theme stood out: resilience, competitiveness and energy security go hand in hand.
The challenge now is to turn ambition into action.
That's why we have launched #PowerCouples, a report showing how closer cooperation between industry and the power sector can strengthen competitiveness and accelerate electrification across Europe.
⚡ Decarbonisation without deindustrialisation.
⚡ Competitiveness through electrification.
⚡ A stronger and more resilient Europe.
