Σήμερα, στην Ολομέλεια της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής των Περιφερειών, εισηγήθηκα τη γνωμοδότηση που εγκρίθηκε ομόφωνα, ενόψει των δύο μεγάλων διεθνών διασκέψεων του ΟΗΕ για το κλίμα και τη βιοποικιλότητα.

Η συζήτηση αυτή δεν αφορά μόνο στις Βρυξέλλες ή τον ΟΗΕ. Αφορά στην καθημερινότητα κάθε πολίτη.

Αφορά στο αν η Αθήνα θα γίνει πιο ανθεκτική, πιο δροσερή και πιο ανθρώπινη. Αν θα αποκτήσει περισσότερα δέντρα και σκιά στις γειτονιές της για να αντιμετωπίζει τους καύσωνες. Αν θα υπάρχουν πόροι για αντιπλημμυρικά έργα πριν έρθει η επόμενη καταστροφή. Αν τα σχολεία θα γίνουν πιο ασφαλή και ενεργειακά αποδοτικά. Αν οι δημόσιοι χώροι θα αναβαθμιστούν. Αν οι δήμοι θα μπορούν να επενδύουν σε καθαρότερες και οικονομικότερες μορφές ενέργειας, μειώνοντας το κόστος για τους δημότες.

Η πιο κρίσιμη πολιτική μάχη των επόμενων μηνών είναι ο νέος ευρωπαϊκός προϋπολογισμός. Από αυτόν θα εξαρτηθεί αν οι δήμοι και οι περιφέρειες θα έχουν τα μέσα να κάνουν πράξη όλα τα παραπάνω.

Δεν μπορεί η Ευρώπη να θέτει ολοένα και πιο φιλόδοξους στόχους για το κλίμα, την προσαρμογή και τη βιοποικιλότητα, αλλά να μην εξασφαλίζει τους αναγκαίους πόρους σε εκείνους που καλούνται να τους υλοποιήσουν.

Το στοίχημα για την Ευρώπη είναι ο κάτοικος της Κυψέλης, των Πατησίων, του Κολωνού και κάθε γειτονιάς της Αθήνας να ζει καλύτερα: με περισσότερο πράσινο, πιο δροσερές γειτονιές, ασφαλέστερα σχολεία, καλύτερους δημόσιους χώρους και υποδομές που αντέχουν στις προκλήσεις της κλιματικής κρίσης.

At today’s @EU_CoR plenary debate, we exchanged on the future of EU support for fisheries, aquaculture, and the ocean under the next MFF.

Local and regional authorities are key partners in shaping and delivering these policies on the ground. As we move forward with the MFF, we need a funding framework that helps coastal communities innovate and remain resilient and competitive. To achieve this, we must make full use of the new budget architecture to maximise available funds.

🌍 Regions will be key to turning these ambitions into tangible results.
