My visit to Normandy ends with a good discussion with the fishing community in Port-en-Bessin-Huppain, a leader in innovation. 🎣🇫🇷
We want to see modernised fishing boats in our ports, young people joining the profession, and a vibrant sector , resilient to external shocks, be it consequence of climate change or geopolitical dynamics.
With high fuel costs and the challenges of Brexit, the sector is navigating rough waters. But the EU is here to help. #EMFAF funds are supporting innovation and helping young fishers start their careers, and #Vision2040 will focus on energy transition, generational renewal, and fair competition.
Grateful to @CathChabaud and @s_yoncourtin for having introduced me to Normandy’s realities and for the hospitality of the local community.

Cherbourg 🇫🇷 shows what Europe’s blue economy can look like at its best: shipbuilding, marine renewables and cutting-edge maritime innovation powering jobs, growth and sustainability. Together with Normandy’s conservation efforts and smart multi-use planning of marine space, it is a living laboratory for Europe’s Ocean Pact and coastal renewal.
It is also a powerful reminder of the value of EU investment — from FloWatt and NH1 Raz Blanchard harnessing tidal energy, to EMFAF-supported vessel decarbonisation projects helping build a cleaner, more competitive maritime future.
🇫🇷 is championing EU aquaculture production, especially in shellfish and mussels farming. Together with @CathChabaud@s_yoncourtin a very interesting exchange with the sector in Pirou, Normandy, on a range of challenges: climate change, water quality and invasive predators.
The EU can support the sector through EMFAF as well as through the EU Aquaculture Assistance mechanism. A competitive and resilient aquaculture is indispensable for EU’s food security.
Happy World Ocean Day! 🌊
The ocean supports life far beyond its shores, from marine species and coastal communities to food systems and climate resilience.
Through the #EUOceanPact, #OceanEye and international action for marine biodiversity, the EU’s work continues every day.
Delighted to speak to the next generation of ocean guardians in Paris - schoolchildren actively engaged on the topics of plastic pollution and biodiversity preservation through the Educational Marine Area programme in 🇫🇷.
Raising future eco-citizens starts here, and the ocean also starts right here - in our cities and our choices, as everything we do on land affects the ocean. Through its ambitious roadmaps and local action France is setting the standard for Europe.
The sea starts here, and so does our responsibility to protect it. 🌊
🌊 Healthy oceans and a competitive blue economy must go hand in hand. For #WorldOceanDay the EESC calls for stronger ocean governance, sustainable fisheries, innovation & support for coastal communities.

On World Ocean Day, as we mark one year of the 3rd UN Ocean Conference and the adoption of the #EUOceanPact, I am pleased to join the friends of the ocean at Neptune Mission Forum. The message is clear: the ocean’s future depends on global cooperation and on expanding our knowledge of the ocean. 🌊
Preserving ocean’s health, but also navigating today’s turbulent geopolitical waters, requires science, data, and diplomacy, which is why #OceanEye comes at just the right time.
🌍 The ocean knows no borders—neither should our efforts to save it.
🌊This #WorldOceansDay we spotlight the SEMPA Project funded by the EU DG MENA.🇪🇺
Supporting #30x30 -the global goal to protect 30% of land and seas by 2030 - SEMPA helps Mediterranean countries expand and strengthen Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), turning ambition into action.

Constructive exchange with @BronisRopeLT and 🇱🇹 @LRSeimas Committee on Rural Affairs and Committee on Environment Protection to discuss how EU ocean and fisheries policies can support Baltic coastal communities.
I provided updates on the newly adopted #OceanEye, the upcoming #OceanAct, and the Coastal Communities Strategy, with which we are investing in resilience, skills, and a diversified blue economy.
Lithuania’s contribution is key as we shape Europe’s oceans to be sustainable, competitive, and fair for all. 🌊
More than 80% of the ocean remains unmapped, unobserved & unexplored.
OceanEye is the new EU initiative aiming to increase ocean observation to better address climate change, sustainable growth & maritime security.
