Today, we are taking a historic step towards Ukraine's future within the EU, by opening formal negotiations for its accession.
A united and determined @G7 is essential to help bring this war to an end and achieve a just and lasting peace.

Great discussion with @MarkJCarney in Evian.
Canada is truly the most European of the non-European countries.
We are working together on digital trade, critical raw materials, and defence. We are also stepping up our cooperation on energy.
Our next Summit, on 29–30 October in Canada, will be a major milestone in a partnership that continues to grow deeper and broader.
Ce Sommet du @G7 se tient à un moment déterminant.
Les choix que nous ferons ici enverront un signal clair sur notre volonté d'agir, de coopérer et de défendre les principes qui sous-tendent la stabilité mondiale.

This morning in Geneva, we met with the President of the Swiss Confederation @ParmelinG who informed us on the results of yesterday’s referendum.
The EU and Switzerland are close partners with deep ties.
At a time of global economic and political turbulence, our latest package of agreements modernises our relationship and will contribute to the stability, prosperity, and economic and legal security of citizens and businesses on both sides. 🇪🇺 🇨🇭
The massive bombings and attacks overnight targeting civilians and the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO site, are yet another reminder that Russia is continuing its escalation.
These attacks demonstrate Russia’s unwillingness to engage seriously in peace negotiations.
But time is not on Russia’s side.
When G7 Leaders meet in Evian today, we will discuss how to increase pressure on Russia to come to the negotiating table for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
President Costa is attending the @G7 summit in Evian 🇫🇷 this week.

I welcome the agreement just announced between Washington and Tehran. I look forward to an end to this costly war and to the full restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
I commend the tireless diplomatic efforts of all those who made this deal possible.
Weapons must now fall silent, and outstanding differences must be resolved by peaceful means, in accordance with international law. The European Union is ready to contribute to advancing a comprehensive strategy for lasting peace across the Middle East.
Just had a good talk with Apple CEO @tim_cook about child safety online, and about AI and innovation.
The EU has strong rules in place to ensure a high level of safety, security and privacy for minors in digital platforms.
But we need to do more.
EU leaders and the European Commission are examining how to make online spaces safer for minors, including through a digital age of majority for accessing social media.
The G7 summit in Evian next week will contribute to a coordinated global approach to the protection of minors in the digital space.
Europe’s prosperity and social model are rooted in the competitiveness of our economy – that’s why we’ve made 2026 the year of EU competitiveness.
Today I held a videoconference with CEOs of European telecom operators to hear how they are investing in innovation, digital infrastructure and integrating the EU telecommunications market.
EU Leaders will review the progress on the implementation of the ‘One Europe, One Market’ competitiveness agenda at next week’s #EUCO.
Today, the European Union took a major step forward.
All member states agreed to open the first accession negotiations cluster with Ukraine and Moldova.
At the first intergovernmental conference on Monday, we will open the cluster on fundamentals; the backbone of the accession process.
It covers the core values and principles on which the EU is built, from the rule of law to strong democratic institutions.
This is a recognition of the determination, courage and hard work shown by both countries in advancing reforms, even in the face of immense challenges.
And a signal that the EU’s offer of peace, stability and opportunity is unmatchable.
Enlargement is a strategic choice.
By bringing our nations closer together, we strengthen peace, security and prosperity across our continent.
In a world marked by growing uncertainty, a larger European Union is in our common interest.
Enlargement remains one of the EU’s greatest success stories and our best investment in our shared future.
Today, I spoke with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to express the EU’s full solidarity with Bahrain following the latest attacks by Iran.
These unjustified attacks by Iran continue to risk further destabilising the region and must stop.
The EU urgently calls for de-escalation and for all parties to remain engaged on the diplomatic track.
The EU will continue to support Bahrain, also in its capacity as the current Presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council and as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Thank you President @EmmanuelMacron for bringing together major global economies for an important dialogue on how to ensure balanced global growth.
Excessive macroeconomic imbalances threaten growth and create economic and financial risks.
The EU, as one of the world’s major economies, is ready to play its role in this debate.
That is why EU leaders will discuss global macroeconomic imbalances in the June EUCO.
Norway is one of the EU's closest partners and friends, and it’s always a pleasure to welcome Prime Minister @jonasgahrstore to Brussels.
We discussed EU-Norway relations and current geopolitical developments. We focused in particular on our European response to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Our shared objective is a just and sustainable peace that respects international law and the UN Charter.
Next week, the European Council will address several crucial issues for our citizens and our companies, including competitiveness and global economic challenges, the EU’s next long term budget, as well as Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

The EU and Republic of Korea are strengthening our Strategic Partnership – to cooperate more on security, trade, the economy and industrial policy.
We are working together for the prosperity and security of our citizens.
Today’s EU-Republic of Korea summit brought our strategic partnership forward in all its dimensions.
A partnership that delivers benefits on both sides - for our people and our economies. https://t.co/Bc51bM2JpR
