🇪🇺 Official account of the EU's presence in the United States. Strengthening transatlantic ties through shared common values. Also: @EUAmbUS & @RuthBajada
The #EU needs a strong economy, also as the base to build up its defence capabilities.
With Competitiveness Compass we are turning the Draghi report into policy.
It is urgent for 🇪🇺 to:
‼️invest more in innovation & high-end tech
‼️ slash red tape
‼️bring down barriers in the Single Market
‼️deepen our capital markets
Much progress has been made.
But much more work is ahead of us.
Implementation of Drone Deal starts!
Today I convened 1st meeting of 🇪🇺 EU-🇺🇦 UA Drone Alliance.
Our industries hand in hand: 🇺🇦 UA skill & 🇪🇺 EU scale to be ready to respond!
To clear bottlenecks, advance our skills & constantly innovate!
Today, we have approved €6.1 billion to help Ukraine procure air defence systems, missiles, drones and electronic warfare systems.
With this approval, Ukraine can purchase the Patriot equipment it needs to protect its skies from Russia's attacks.
Together with our Member States and NATO, we will continue to deliver for Ukraine.
So that Ukraine prevails.
So that it wins the just and lasting peace it deserves.

Europe’s new approach to migration is working – the figures speak for themselves. For 14 months now, illegal border crossings are steadily declining. We must now stay the course, continue strengthening our external borders, and consolidate the progress we have made.
After 25 years, the memory of #September11 still echoes around the world. And for 25 years, we have joined our American friends in fighting terrorism, extremism & hate. That commitment endures in today's troubled geopolitical waters. In moments of strife, our alliances matter.
25 years on, we remember the victims of 9/11.
In our host city, New York, we stand with the families, survivors, and first responders.
We honour their memory by choosing peace, solidarity & unity. In moments of danger, our alliances matter. #RememberTheSky#NeverForget911
Twenty-five years ago, the 9/11 terror attacks changed the course of history.
Today, we honour the 2,977 lives lost on September 11. The attacks on the World Trade Centre, the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania shattered lives and fundamentally altered world affairs.
Europe and America immediately stood together. NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time. European Allies rallied to defend America. Hundreds of thousands of European troops served shoulder to shoulder with their US Allies in Afghanistan. Many paid the ultimate price.
A quarter-century on, Europe remains fully committed to strong ties with the United States. Our transatlantic bond has always made both sides of the Atlantic safer and stronger.
Twenty-five years on, the world still remembers where it was when everything changed.
Time stands still around the memory of #September11 2001. The lives lost, the families left behind, and the extraordinary courage of the heroes who ran towards danger so others might live.
Today, we honour them all. Europe remembers.
25 years ago, the United States - and the values of freedom, democracy and tolerance that we share across the Atlantic - were targeted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Today, we remember the thousands of lives lost and all those whose lives were changed forever. We honour the victims, their families, and the courage of those who came to the aid of others.
Today, we remember.
We remember that 25 years ago, the world stood still.
We remember the 3,000 people who left home that morning and never returned.
Where the Twin Towers once stood, two columns of light now rise into the New York sky.
They remind us that light triumphs even on the darkest of days.
My statement on 25 years since 9/11.

25 years ago, the #September11 attacks devastated not just the US, but their partners around the world.
That morning, the sky was crystal clear. Today, we join #RememberTheSky with @Sept11Memorial, which encourages us to reflect on that day and how the world came together.
We do not have to accept childhoods shaped by algorithms.
We do not have to accept a system that fails our children.
Europe has the power to act.
To give children the time they need in the real world.
I will detail our proposal in my upcoming State of the Union address.
Our security on Earth increasingly depends on our security in space.
And some capabilities are too important to depend on others.
Up there, Europe must act as one.
Building together what no Member State could build alone. https://t.co/0jietcEnGH
Starting off our first DCM meeting after summer break with helpful insight from and Hanna Hartig and @pewresearch. Fascinating look at US political attitudes and voter behavior ahead of a big election season.
With 🇪🇸 @jmalbares in Brussels, we discussed the situation in Ceuta.
The EU is in full solidarity with Spain. Today the Commission decided to provide EUR 114,6 million of emergency assistance to support the management of the situation.
Returns, including of minors, in line with international law are the priority.
We discussed the importance of sustained cooperation between Spain, Morocco and the EU to strengthen border management, prevent dangerous illegal journeys and combat smuggling networks.
From day one, we have stood firmly behind Spain in managing the situation in Ceuta and offered our support. Today, we provide further European support to address pressing needs on the ground. The priority is clear: those with no right to stay must return.

The economic case for EU enlargement is strong: reforms bring investment, and investment boosts productivity & growth.
In the 2000s, enlargement added new growth engines in central and eastern Europe.
The IMF study presented today shows that this potential has not diminished.

We are tabling two packages - two major shifts for Europe’s economic leadership.
Our EU Innovation Act will help start-ups access finance and navigate the world of R&D procurement.
And we are revamping public procurement rules.
Making them simpler, clearer and more focused on our environmental, social and innovation goals.
And, where it matters, on Made in Europe.

A new political season is underway & #TeamEurope is back together! Some of us returning from a summer break, others are joining the class.
With a full EU-US agenda ahead, we are ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead. Great expectations. Great experience. One Europe.
