👥 Team sign-ups are now open for the CT Surgery Resident Showdown.

Presented by EACTS and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), the CT Surgery Residents Showdown is a challenging cognitive skills competition being held in both North America and Europe. You will need to register your two-person team to be entered into the qualifying exam.

The three highest scoring European teams will be invited to the European Final at the 40th EACTS Annual Meeting in Barcelona this October. The winning team will compete in the final championship round at the STS Annual Meeting in San Diego from 28-31 January 2027, with airfare, travel expenses, and registration covered.

Last year’s winners, Nazlı Melis Coşkun and Atılay Koltuk, described the experience as far more than just a competition. Alongside preparing for the challenge, they built international connections, formed lasting friendships, and met leading experts from the global cardiothoracic community.

How does sharing international data help improve care for patients with advanced heart failure?

The European Registry for Patients with Mechanical Circulatory Support (EUROMACS) supports the collection of clinical and scientific data for patients undergoing durable mechanical circulatory support (MCS) procedures, helping to strengthen research, clinical decision-making, and patient outcomes across Europe.

The latest EUROMACS report includes data from 56 hospitals. This shows a growing international effort to better understand MCS procedures and their complications in real-world practice.

Selected abstracts will be invited to submit a manuscript for publication in the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EJCTS).

✈️ Travel scholarships are available for cardiothoracic surgeons, physicians, and residents from under-resourced institutions who treat underserved patients and demonstrate financial need. Benjamin Chapman, a 2025 Grant recipient, highlighted the opportunity to present his work, connect with surgeons and trainees from across Europe, and gain valuable early exposure to the international cardiothoracic community, helping strengthen his interest in academic cardiothoracic surgery.

Applicants must be EACTS Pre-Trainee members. If you are not yet a member, you can join the EACTS community and become eligible to apply.
