The last hieroglyphic text in Egyptian history was written by the priest Asmet-Akhom at the end of the 4th Century AD in the Philae temple in Luxor during a period of unrest and Egypt's conversion to Christianity....
This inscription comes from the temple complex at Philae, one of the last functioning centers of traditional Egyptian religion. By the late 4th century AD, Egypt was undergoing a profound transition as Christianization of the Roman Empire reshaped public life and state policy.
Hieroglyphic writing, once the formal script of temples and royal monuments, had already been in decline for centuries, gradually replaced in daily use by Demotic and then Greek under earlier Ptolemaic and Roman rule. By this period, its use was largely confined to ritual and priestly contexts, making inscriptions like this among the final echoes of a tradition stretching back over 3,000 years.
Philae itself remained active longer than most temples, but imperial edicts against pagan practices eventually led to its closure in the 5th century AD, marking the effective end of hieroglyphic literacy.
The last known hieroglyphic inscription is dated to 394 AD, while the final use of the related cursive script, Demotic, appears a few decades later, closing the written chapter of ancient Egyptian language until its rediscovery in the 19th Century.

Today, Barack and I went back to the White House to unveil our official portraits. It was so exciting to share Sharon Sprung and Robert McCurdy's incredible artistry with the world—and to be back in the place we called home for eight years.

Anyone seeing that box walking out the door in his or his minions arms wouldn’t think there was any reason to question it. Just personal junk. Ie: he HID his theft because he KNEW it was illegal
