i don't worry about the availability in the long term (hope i'm not wrong here)

because apple fully adjusted their prices to the rampocalyptic reality we live in today. they will happily supply us with shareholder approved margins.

this will hopefully make the 2nd hand market more liquid and overall more accessible, m4 minis are still as fast as the day they launched and it's still serious compute, for %99 of the public.

and a great computer to pair a 20 dollar subsscription and your favorite harness, to work on whatever you have to or want to wayy faster, even if it can't meaningfully do local ai on it's own.

i always suspect and will keep suspecting that apple pulled the plug on several mac studio and mini configurations one by one because they couldn't overnight make the 10k 512gb m3 ultra 18k,

and they did not want to spend any more money on ram for older devices.

there even an established distro called asahi linux , but its limited to m1-m3 series. unfortunately it seem like the asahi team is against relying ai, even for simple code assistance, because they feel like all ai is slop.
