Yesterday evening I joined Dr. Edward Barnett, Chargé d’Affaires at the British High Commission at a political communications reception hosted by him.
It was a great evening of networking and partnerships.
I believe I am among the most highly educated people in Kenya. I hold two PhDs in Applied and Computational Mathematics and was admitted to one of Africa's premier universities, where I graduated as the top student in my class. Unfortunately, despite these qualifications and academic achievements, I remain unemployed.

Yesterday, I joined Dr. @salomebeacco - CBS, the @kenyaprisons, development partners, and clean cooking stakeholders for the inaugural Technical Working Group meeting on transitioning correctional facility kitchens to clean cooking.
With 99% of Kenya’s 135 correctional facilities still relying on firewood - consuming nearly 60,000 tons annually at a cost of approximately KES 480 million - this transition presents an opportunity to improve health outcomes, reduce pressure on forests, cut emissions, and unlock green investments, jobs, and local manufacturing.
The discussions emphasized data-driven planning, innovative financing including carbon finance, and capacity building for prison officers and inmates to support long-term adoption and sustainability.
Institutional clean cooking is not only a climate and health imperative - it is also a catalyst for green industrialization and sustainable development.
