My online bank @n26 has been down since 8am this morning.

As a founder myself, I totally understand that sometimes things go wrong. Systems break, deployments fail, heck, our datacenter even burned down once. Shit happens.

What I find MUCH HARDER to understand for a company this size and this critical:
- No mention on social media acknowledging the incident
- Nothing on their site or support center
- No proactive communication to customers (sending me push notifications to upsell stuff looks way easier..?)
- No indication of what’s broken, who is affected, or when we should check again. Couldn't find a status page either.

The part I really dislike is the silence. It feels like the strategy is to say nothing and hope most customers don’t notice.

When your product stops working, silence creates more anxiety than the incident itself. A two sentence update saying “we know, we’re on it” can go a long way. You’ll probably never be able to measure the impact of that update directly, but trust compounds over time (so does frustration...)

🚨 BREAKING: The Prime Minister of Sweden says the EU AI Act is confusing and should be paused. Many haven't realized it yet, but the 'Washington Effect' is spreading fast! 😱

According to Politico, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said:

"An example of confusing EU regulations is the fact that the so-called AI Act is to come into force without there being common standards.”

On his quote, a reminder that the fact that EU standards for AI are not ready is NOT an impediment to compliance.

Standards will help companies obtain presumption of conformity for their high-risk AI systems or general-purpose AI models. They are tools to accelerate compliance.

However, the absence of standards doesn't prevent compliance, and the EU AI Act is still fully functional and applicable without them.

The EU AI Act's lawmakers, in fact, already foresaw that there would likely be delays in EU standardization and established mechanisms such as Codes of Practice (which should be ready by August this year).

Impressed with the EU's swift (and widespread) narrative shift.

The Washington Effect (should I say the Trump effect?) is the Brussels Effect in reverse, and it's spreading fast!
