@DeborahMeaden Starmer better overall but the fast format wasn’t right for him. Sunak petulant and rude but got some misleading claims in and wasn’t rebutted strongly enough by Starmer.
"That's it. Quite a night."
Or in other words: "Thanks for watching 'How not to Host a Debate', a masterclass in chaos."
What a waste of an opportunity. Still, ITV played a bunch of ads, so they're probably happy.
@BethRigby But awful when you read the small print (as per usual with Tory policies)
- 30k cap on the military service (5% of 18 year olds)
- Funded by cracking down on tax avoidance (is this really the best use of that money?) and closing the UK Shared Prosperity Fund
@edwinhayward From the Ashworth-Hayes article: “By diverting young people away from the private sector jobs they would otherwise have taken or the education they might have received, National Service would destroy GDP on a monumental scale.”
Hilarious.
@GeorgeWParker I thought Sunak was annoyed at Labour for being negative towards the state of the country and the Tory’s record? Isn’t this basically just the exact same but flipped?
@Bren4Bassetlaw Who has dubbed it that? Because you probably mean The Telegraph and non-sensical right-wingers (including Tory MPs).
We happily accepted Hong Kongers and Ukrainians. How is this different? Get over yourself Brendan.
NEW: Just 1 vote in it; MPs vote 170 to 169 to exclude MPs accused of serious sexual or violent offences from parly at point of arrest rather than when charged. This LD amendment tabled by Wendy Chamberlain & co-signed by @jessphillips & goes further than govt had wanted
Quick thread on the Astra Zeneca (AZ) covid vaccine since it's been in the news today.
TLDR there isn't a new "smoking gun", the AZ vax was one of first and cheapest, it saved millions of lives globally, there are better vax out there now, adapted to new variants 1/9
@mouldie099 The anger against cyclists on Twitter is just wild. Maybe, you know, we could all simply be considerate of vulnerable road users. Christ. It’s like people forget how convenient cars are. Slowing down for 30 seconds to safely navigate a cyclist won’t ruin your life.
@theJeremyVine You always attract some genuinely insane people on your posts (people clearly can’t deal with the idea of being sensible around cyclists). This was an incredibly dangerous and unnecessary overtake from the bus
@MrJackLowe Having been to Kendal Calling this summer and seen the effort they (and @betternotstop) went to to encourage leaving nothing behind, I get the impression Festival Republic just generally don’t care that much about the environmental impact of their festivals
@AndyBurnhamGM@jburnmurdoch And it makes us so unproductive. Mcr has unbelievable talent, but we’re taking 5 days to do what Londoners do in 3
Poor transport (generally) outside London. Lack of housing close to great jobs. The list goes on.
