On 17 August, EMERGENCY's Kabul Surgical Centre received 35 patients following an explosion in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighbourhood.

The patients were children aged 10-14 who were reportedly leaving school when the explosion occurred. Three required surgery.

6 UN experts warned Italy in a letter on 6 July that the proposed "naval blockade" bill may violate international human rights and refugee law. People crossing the Central Mediterranean already risk their lives to reach safety. This bill would make sea rescue even harder.

This is part of a wider and ongoing crackdown on civilian search and rescue in the Mediterranean. Since 2023, NGO rescue vessels have been detained 42 times.
