@tori_goggin I'm writing YA and I never explain anything. If it's not something my character would think about when they see that person, I don't write it. I've never once thought to myself "that's my friend, Bob" as if explaining my life to someone. It's a stylistic choice, though.
Am I the only one who finds it ironic when I find both "looking for LGBTQIA+ stories/authors" AND "must contain romance!" on a #MSWL? ...What are you thinking the A stands for...? #WritingCommunity#amquerying
I've reached that point in drafting where all the side plots should be wrapping up and the loose ends tying off, but instead there are half a dozen flapping tails, a few characters who never resurfaced, and the MC's character arc didn't actually happen.
Eh. Fix it in editing.
@ThinkinandGamin Oh wow, thanks so much! That's so flattering. Unfortunately I don't accept writing commissions, since I have so much stuff to write for myself that I don't have a lot of extra time. I'm lucky enough to have a comfortable full-time job that supports my writing.
@ACLiddle83 I just know underwater combat in D&D is slightly less irritating if you have a bow. Not much, but slightly.
Hm. Hadn't considered. Will ponder that.
@AlarahPeak @adargyle Good luck! Those word count cuts can be painful, but it sounds like you're making great progress. My word count went way up from my first draft. By like 40k xD; Whoops.
@JakobRyce Oh definitely. I don't think I could ever write on commission or try to chase market trends of anything like that. The result would probably be pretty terrible. But some people manage to do it well.
@tms_writing Start reading it. You probably have an idea of some big problems already, so write those down and any others you encounter along the way. I usually do a lot of back and forth during the first edits of my book.
@STuttleWriter I tend to believe that a good idea can carry mediocre writing, but not even the most beautifully worded prose is going to keep me for a boring idea.
@adargyle Just clocked in at 144k for draft 3.0. Going to work on something else for a while before doing any more editing (then I can heartlessly hack stuff off).
