I also look at how gene flow between different groups may inhibit their ability to expand their small range using ddRAD data. I’ll have a few papers coming out this year answering these questions, so stay tuned!

My dissertation work is on the Cumberland Plateau salamander, Plethodon kentucki. It’s a cute woodland salamander in what’s called the slimy salamander species complex. (Yes, they can get very slimy when scared)

These salamanders have a very small range, living only in parts of Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, & Tennessee, but they are genetically very different! I am asking whether these differences make them different species
