Black women are starting more businesses than any other demographic, but require 40 introductions to funders to get funded, compared to only 7 introductions for white women. "This is stupid" says that unstoppable @CherylConte#nmvsummit22

At @iHollaback -- we're aligned with @nnedv's call to reauthorize the Feinstein/Ernst #VAWA of 2022 to respond to the needs of diverse populations, including an investment in culturally-specific programs. And you should be, too!
That said #VAWA does allow for funds for sexual assault prevention, which is definitely a low bar to clear, but none the less a hard fought victory by advocates and activists.
#VAWA doesn't provide funding for services to address harassment, in any form... yet. It's focused on sexual violence, domestic violence, and stalking. This is something that we need to fix.
Reauthorizing #vawa is a great thing, since it allows us to make updates to the grant programs based on what we learn. For example, this next version includes funding for #restorativejustice, which is an excellent detour from dependency on the police to fix sexual violence.
First off, some history. It was first passed in 1994 to provide services and housing to survivors and training to improve the legal response to gender-based violence. It will be up for reauthorization this month!
