On August 21, 1968, Staff Sergeant Marvin Rex Young's platoon was ambushed by a superior force in Vietnam. With his leader down, Young took command, forming a defensive line and exposing himself to relentless fire to protect his men. Seeing a trapped squad, he charged alone, firing to cover their escape. Despite a head wound and inj*ries to his leg and arm, Young refused aid, staying behind to hold off the enemy and buy his men time. Overrun and mortally wound£d, his selflessness saved numerous lives. For his extraordinary courage, Young was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
