It’s come to my attention that the LinkedIn algorithm seems to serve newsletter notifications for The Kids StreamerSphere based on whatever tipple it’s drinking at the time.
If you’d like the newsletter straight to your inbox, I’m happy to say you can now sign up on Substack here:

There’s plenty coming up including:
· A deep dive back into the tension of theatrical and streaming with animated features
· Netflix earnings hitting right in time for your last rosé of MIP
· Plus I’m camping on some very juicy data for Bluey which needs unpacking and I’m not (just) talking about 7 weeks of 1 billion plus on Nielsen
Thank you to more than 1,600 of you who have signed up on LinkedIn, I’ll still be publishing here too #windowing. Special thanks if you’ve liked, commented, shared, or dm-ed words of encouragement.
And feel free to spread the word folks!
Steph Curry failed to make the playoffs but he’s #1 on streaming with his GOAT movie hitting 1 Billion minutes viewed on Netflix in its first week on Nielsen chart. Cc @craighorlbeck
Congrats. Now let animation directors in. Maybe you didn't notice, but an animated film has made more than any of your live-action movies this year. And last year. And the year before that.
'The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act' did the unthinkable, cracking the global top five at the box office over the weekend, earning $26.5 million. Adding in Thursday screenings, the indie finale has grossed $35.5 million worldwide.

Netflix is paying the KPop Demon Hunters directors like elite TV showrunners AND giving them a share of merch sales to return for a sequel. All the details ⬇️⬇️ https://t.co/nO22PPaCo7
Netflix is planning a global KPop Demon Hunters concert tour for next year.
Promoters are salivating.
But… who will perform as the girls? It may be entirely virtual.

Correct, but not the full picture. Yes, ad money was lost during the switch from broadcast to streaming. However, animation has always been a “loss leader” and the real money is made from licensing and merchandising. For example: SpongeBob makes billions a year with underwear
Netflix is heading back to theaters with an animated original, giving 'Cosmic Princess Kaguya' a theatrical run — but only in Japan. It's another reminder that for the streamer, cinemas remain an occasional regional perk, not part of a grander plan.

This week's newsletter is a riff on @EntStrategyGuy's recent receipts on KPop Demon Hunters vs. Encanto but streaming wars are not the same as franchise wars...
While I was trying to figure out if KPop beat Encanto, I stumbled across some other, fascinating films that also are all-timers...including Home Alone at fifth and Elf at sixth.
#KPopDemonHunters is Nielsen's most-watched movie of 2025 with 20.5 billion viewing minutes.
Adam Sandler’s “Happy Gilmore 2” nabbed 7.1 billion minutes on Netflix, while “Wicked” scored 6.8 billion viewing minutes on Peacock and Prime Video.

Netflix called the yard stick, but now it's tripping them up. The yard stick is engagement disclosure - ongoing content performance metrics they release in Top 10s and Engagement Reports.
That was my key takeaway from tonight's Netflix earnings.
