The technological edge that Ukraine enjoyed in the spring and summer of 2026 is rapidly narrowing. If Ukraine is unable to preserve that advantage, Russia could move ahead both in production scale and technologically over the next year.

This does not necessarily mean that the overall dynamics of the war will change, but it is clearly one of the issues that Ukraine’s military leadership will have to address in the near future.

Adam, I think we agree on more than we disagree on, though there are a few important differences in how we see the mechanisms. One interesting thought experiment, which might help clarify the disagreement, is to ask what would happen if the US were actually able to bring down its fiscal deficit. Would foreigners then invest less in the US, or more?

If they invest less, it would suggest that foreign internal imbalances do indeed adjust to accommodate US internal imbalances, as you argue. if they invest more, it would suggest the opposite, as I argue.
